I just enabled the 100GB free ftp backup and activated NFS/CIFS protocol @US$2.8/month extra cost to mount a 100GB /backup partition on my SoYouStart server to see if it's a viable for some backup space that survives OS reinstalls. Seems okay read speeds but very slow writes. Still tweaking and tuning NFS on client side to see if can improve write speeds.

edit: using sabujp/nfsSpeedTest ยท GitHub to test NFS mount get around 19-26MB/s writes while reads are very nice 4,400MB/s to 5,700+ MB/s

    Code:
    df -hT | grep /backup
                         nfs4 100G 128K 100G 1% /backup
    Code:
    backup]# nfsspeedtest -b 4k -s 128m

I've found the NFS to be pretty slow write wise as well. Not really an issue, as it's just being used for storing install images, and a nightly snapshot of the VMs

yeah guess it can't be helped.. so far managed to get 24-27MB/s writes which I guess is enough for backups that survive OS reinstalls

    Code:
    backup]# nfsspeedtest -b 4k -s 128m -y
mysoyoustartserver: Write test (dd): 27.323 MB/s 218.581 mbps 4.685 seconds

    backup]# nfsspeedtest -b 8k -s 128m -y
mysoyoustartserver: Write test (dd): 27.426 MB/s 219.411 mbps 4.667 seconds
mysoyoustartserver: Read test (dd): 5348.918 MB/s 42791.345 mbps 0.024 seconds

    Dont' Know Right Now
Just signed up and now have running a server from SoYouStart. Simple id process was quick and simple and the server load and first run have been great. Total time up is currently at 14 minutes :)

System is an E3-SSD3, Intel Xeon E3 1245v2, 32 GB Ram plus 3 x 120 GB SSD - USD 55 p/mth plus USD14 per month for 6 months paying off the setup fee. After that it will be cheaper than the old server I had with 24Gb ram and 1 single SATA drive.

Off to install Centmin Mod and start again :)
