ProtectHome only CentOS 7 specific AFAIK and working on auto fix for centmin mod install and updates.

It's okay to disable ProtectHome , centmin mod been using the current config for years ! And well better that having not enough /tmp disk free space and not being able to properly repair corrupted data in mysql

Making a symlink from /tmp to /home/tmp would bypass it?

yeah strangely i read about mariadb 10.1 ProtectHome=true changes a few days ago on their jira tracker but didn't piece it together that it would be a problem for tmpdir path centmin mod sets heh

Thinking about it the reasoning behind custom tmpdir=/home/mysqltmp dated back to pre-centos 7 days when you could run Centmin Mod on 256MB VPS.. usually the /tmp would of been of very small disk free size which isn't sufficient for any sizeable mysql database's repair and recovery phase admin tasks. It's also a problem on some dedicated servers when you do not partition and size /tmp properly for mysql usage. Hence, the custom tmpdir path as usually /home partition is the largest of them all disk free wise.

I've had MariaDB 10.1.16 crash a few times now. Thinking I might need to rollback to 10.1.14

I've got a 3-node cluster with maxscale in-front of it. So having a node drop isn't the end of the world, just annoying as hell.

It was a Galera-related crash decoding a packet, and there has been a ton of fixes related to it for the next version.

There is one major problem with Maxscale. Maxscale can't send prepared statements to slaves using using read/write OR the round-robin query router plugin.

    Which is rather anoying!

Yeah Galera has a few gotchas and limitations folks need to read up on as to whether it's suited for the usage.

It looks like the maxscale round-robin query router does support prepared statements being distributed. I think I just wasn't reading the kinda poorly written doco properly, but I'll test it first before assuming it does :p

In a 3 node cluster MariaDB 10.1.16, I've now had every node crash with a crappy error message. Normally I give it some time before upgrading the database, but lucked out this time.

Guess I'll be doing a rollback in a few days when I've got some time after work :(

Just downgraded one of the nodes to 10.1.14 since that node on .16 has now crashed 3 times in the last week. Will do the rest when it isn't late-o-clock

Downgraded the remaining two nodes, only took a couple of minutes.

Because it wasn't a crash it was able to use the change cache to stream the tiny changes rather than forcing the node to be reseeded :D
