is the offer still valid? ( most likely it's not)
These HostUS VPS has been awesome. I update nginx and php for centmin mod in batches of 20-30 VPS servers simultaneously and everytime, these HostUS VPS have completed the nginx and php source compiled based updates at least 20-60% faster than any other of my Centmin Mod LEMP based VPS servers ! Absolute bargain at US$25/yr i.e. HostUS London 2 cpus on E3-1270v5 for centmin.sh menu option 4 nginx update in 85.601403589 seconds ! Maybe you should contact the admin and see if he can give you a deal for members of the CMM community? He's probably looking to promote his business.
heads up folks https://community.centminmod.com/threads/hostus-us-new-amsterdam-2gb-openvz-35-yr-vpses.10842/ Makes a great test VPS
My washington dc openvz 4cpu 3gb ram 3gb swap started to slow down significantly, takes 15 seconds to open centmin.. takes over 1000 seconds to update PHP.. even my 512mb openvz premium ramnode's under same conditions do it in under 100. (not even a full yum upgrade) so.. I'll be leaving hostus this month.
Eh...so coincidence..i just finished doing simple benchmark from my wdc Hostus.. It seems not normal for me, fyi i'm on Node WDC01-VZ80 I just realize today, not same performances like before..
I left HostUS for my main site a few months ago, due to it taking over 20 minutes to install XF2. MySQL was just running really slowly on the server. I still use them for my mail server though, mainly because I paid for that a year in advance... And the mail server doesn't need to be really powerful. Liam
hmm seems there's a pattern - what HostUS location was this ? ok keep us informed. I'll have to retest my HostUS VPSes as well to see how they're fairing.
they looked into it, speeds back on par to where it was prior, they said to contact them when we notice this plus some canned stuff about fast speeds not being profitable (i've been with ramnode for 1 year and haven't suffered any loss like this in that time on their openvz so i expected the same from HostUS).. They had to hand remove abusive users on the server and they will keep monitoring. Good support. I'll probably stick around longer now. Still up in the air about bringing the rest of my sites here.
Hi guys just an update just because I was told some weeks clouvider was a one man show and no on. Reading in let I've read they, /him makes use of level 3 has a dedicated port to Linux and uses mx 480. And If my memory does not fail me he provides servers to guys like host us in London. Someone that has access to a laptop/computer might be able to confirm this or not.. Edit Sorry for resurrecting an old thread
Let me be clear. This is not specifically aimed at one company but overall. About Internet providers as one man show. Nothing wrong in terms of hardware (servers, routers, switches etc.) and contracts (datacenter, network providers etc.) It could be perfect. Problem is the one human as one man show. You can't offer 24/7 of support (What almost all those companies promise, though). It simply can't with one person only. Say. there is a problem. What if he takes a rest break. What if he has a free day. What if he sleeps? What if he is on a nice getaway? What if he is on vacation (every human need vacation) What if he's sick? What if he's at a party? What if he's drunk? What if he's separating and working on other matters? What if he's seriously ill? As you can see. Even though you have done all the technique at the double (redundant). A single man remains a single point of failure. When it comes to a single person, there is often nothing documented and the knowledge is only available at the one and only specific person. If something goes wrong what that man, there is nothing nada 0. I.e. No access to the infra, data-center etc etc. Have seen it more often with fellow colleagues and companies. In short. You have a serious problem.
I'm having constant issues over the last month or so with reduced speed to my hostus server. All the panels are down today and I can't connect via putty or the web client area. Urgent support issue has been logged for 2 hours with no response. KVM in LA. Users are getting random connectivity errors and page time outs, yet server itself is relatively happy and database is tuned. One minute its lightning quick, the next it times out. Certainly very frustrating and not looking like there is any action being taken to resolve it.
