I'm not a big fan of the hidden pricing on zoho for adding additional domains. It's great if someone just wants to host one domain, but for someone like me, I need to host multiple domains.

I've found a trend across all these service providers... they all have their own jargon they use to sell the services - users, mailboxes, etc. A customer is led on to believe that mailboxes is multiple @yourdomain.com which it's *@yourdomain.com.

I've tried to search around and find out how much it costs to host multiple domains on zoho mail. It looks like I might have to actually contact them about the price for additional domains. Since they don't have "Live Support" it looks like I'm going to actually have to type out an email - both Rackspace and Namecheap have Live Support. I'm so glad they give me the option to add additional domains: "Option to buy a new domain available when you sign up for a Standard or Premium plan." but don't specify exactly how much those cost.

Also, with zoho I'm seeing a ton of issues on their forums. People getting blacklisted, mail not being delivered, etc. I wouldn't doubt that some of it is user error, but if those email hosting servers are in India (I have nothing against India) those IP addresses are probably a prime target for spammers. I get so much spam on my forum from India IPs, that I had to resort to banning entire blocks of Indian IP addresses. Yes, I realize that the spammers can be using proxies, but forum spam is forum spam.

Check out the zoho forum: Zoho Corporation it's packed with people's complaints.

Rackspace is really nice, but a little pricey. They're upfront with their pricing. $2 per @domain per month with unlimited alias *@domain.com. (just spoke to a person on chat which took all of 3 minutes). Rackspace also has the name and reputation. I know things aren't going to go wrong and if they do, they'll fix it with their "hero" support.

Namecheap looks nice too and probably the one I'm going to go with. Each @domain is $9.98 per year and you get one address (whatever@domain.com) each additional *@domain.com is $2.98. So, if someone had there domains they wanted to host at namecheap it would be $9.98 x 3 per year. ~$30 USD is great and it comes with the Namecheap service reputation.

    My two cents.

it's on the pricing page comparison box Pricing - Zoho Mail and at Pricing - Zoho Mail

yeah but remember the skewed frequency in that most folks will post their issues but not their praises when things go right. Take Centmin Mod forum as an example - count how many folks post feedback for when things work well versus when they have problems etc :)

As to blacklisting, free @yourdomain services all have rate limits and some users are trying to use the wrong tool for the job i.e. using these free @yourdomain services to try and set 10,000 to 100,000 emails per hour or day instead of using the right tool i.e. transactional mail services like mandrill, sendgrid or amazon ses for such emails and even those have specificed rate limits on how much they can send at once.

fyi, rackspace mail has a very low sending rate limit see Email - Free @yourdomain.com Email Accounts & Alternatives | Centmin Mod Community and Fastmail has best sending limit Email - Free @yourdomain.com Email Accounts & Alternatives | Centmin Mod Community

Weird issue, adblock was blocking the input box??? I had to turn off adblocking to post this.

Anyway, Zoho doesn't actually list how much each additional @domain.com would cost - but it appears to be $24 a year. For the basic user who isn't tech savvy they won't get that. I'm not saying it's a bad service, they should just make it clearer that $24 for the premium and $XX for additional domains.

    Current sending limits:

    Rackspace 20K in 24 hours
Rackspace hosted email system - daily sending limit | Knowledge Center | Rackspace Hosting

Fastmail has limits per account type (sent/received) from 120 (free), 2K/2K (lite), 4K/4K (basic), 8K/8K (pro) to 16K/80K (premiere)
    Account limits | FastMail

Namecheap is 500 per hour or 12K per day.

    Forums
Namecheap Email Hosting is pretty quiet. There are some complaints but nothing like I saw on Zoho
Namecheap.com Forums • View forum - Email Services / OpenXchange

Rackspace is the same, pretty tame and quiet

Though, I understand where you're coming from. But as we both run forums, we both can see when a forum is hostile and when one is tame with people asking informational questions and minor issues. ;)

I actually use Mandrill for my servers.

I must have missed that in the welcome message.

Amazon, they are taking over the world.

"AWS Free Tier offers 62,000 messages per month to any recipient when you call Amazon SES from an Amazon EC2 instance."

Does Amazon offer a Mandrill like service or are you using the Amazon EC2 and sending out from the instance? If I can send 62K for free and they have a Mandrill like service, I'll use that instead. I couldn't find anything on their products page, though, they've got so many products on that page it's hard to find anything.

Why is the sending limit so low - 200 emails over a 24 hour period... unless I'm reading something wrong.

For one of my categories on my forum I might have 200 people who get an email when a new post is made... and that's at the category level. Individual thread might have a couple hundred followers which all get an email when there is a new reply. 200 emails isn't going to cut it for me.

that's for initial sandbox mode testing which all new AWS SES accounts go through. Once you're ready for live production use you submit a request and ask for a specific limit and justification. For my private paying clients and myself, I have asked between 250,000 to 500,000 emails per 24hrs without problem on forums with 200k to 500k registered members.

What kind of prices are you looking at for that kind of volume? Is it competitive with Mandrill?

    Code:
Email messages are charged at $0.10 per 1,000
so $10 per 100k emails or $100 per 1 million emails sent

    + data transfers out
    Code:
Data Transfer OUT From Amazon EC2 To Internet
First 1 GB / month $0.000 per GB
Up to 10 TB / month $0.090 per GB
Next 40 TB / month $0.085 per GB

Does it also hide server IP address?
