I'm relatively new to transactional email providers and started using Mandrill for this forum and so far been excellent for email delivery and providing usefull mail delivery statistics in Mandrillapp interface. However, I came across this brief review comparison of different transactional email providers done by a web host and has some juicy information for comparing Mandrill vs SendGrid vs Amazon SES vs Mailgun vs Postmark.
As I use Mandrill, I'm concerned about the reported problems where Mandrill would mark an email as delivered but it actually hasn't been delivered. The same web host posted a separate thread at https://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1408109.

Thought it would be a good read for users here who are using Mandrill so they can double check if their emails are really being delivered as stated.

Also anyone have experience with the other mentioned transactional email providers above ?

I ran into issues with Mandrill like that. I use Sendgrid currently.

I am on their 40k a month plan and have never had an issue. SMTP.com is good as well, but expensive.

huge differences in costs between Mandrill vs SendGrid

    on 40k emails/month
    • Mandrill = $5.60/month
    • SendGrid = $9.95/month

    on 100k emails/month
    • Mandrill = $17.60/month
    • SendGrid = $79.95/month on Silver Package or with Bronze with 60k additional at $0.001/email = $69.95/month

Actually it's send but mostly delay (5 to 20 minutes usually), I encounter this since last month and we have some conversation from Mandrill Support.
Delay not because I'm out of quota.
But something to do with spam prevention between gmail and mandrill I think.

I'll try sendy.co + amazon SES to get best of both.
    Anyone have used sendy already?

Have any of you tried Authmailer or Mailjet? I'm using Mailgun currently and not happy really. It's quite expensive for just sending notification emails.

guess for price it's still the only option for lower volume transactional emails

Yeah I just read about authmailer.com on WHT seems to be cheaper than Mandrill for higher volumes > 50,000-100,000+ transactional emails where Authmailer charges a flat US$10/month per 100,000 emails above the first 100,000 emails

    i.e.
    • Mandrill 50,000 emails = US$7.60/month
    • Authmailer 50,000 emails = US$6.66/month
    • Mandrill 100,000 emails = US$17.60/month
    • Authmailer 100,000 emails = US$12.49/month
    • Mandrill 500,000 emails = US$97.60/month
    • Authmailer 500,000 emails = US$12.49/month + 4x US$10/month = US$52.49/month
    • Mandrill 1,000,000 emails = US$197.60/month
    • Authmailer 1,000,000 emails = US$12.49/month + 9x US$10/month = US$102.49/month
    • Mandrill 2,000,000 emails = US$348.20/month
    • Authmailer 2,000,000 emails = US$12.49/month + 19x US$10/month = US$202.49/month
    • Mandrill 5,000,000 emails = US$798.20/month
    • Authmailer 5,000,000 emails = US$12.49/month + 49x US$10/month = US$502.49/month
Haven't tried Mailjet or Authmailer though.

Mailjet like Mandrill has 12k emails free than more is paid, 120,000 emails = US$74.95/month which is 5x times more expensive than Authmailer at 100k emails mark.

    Indeed Mailgun looks expensive, 100K emails = US$45/month and 120K emails = US$55/month and 500k emails = US$245/month and 1m emails = US$421.50/month

interesting came across even cheaper long term alternative elasticemail.com which gets cheaper, the longer you use them and more email pricing levels/volume you send !
