Xenforo Xenforo 2.x Opinion

Was playing around with Xenforo today and it's really nice. Love the options available. Xenforo has some options which I normally would have to purchase using IPB.

Thinking of starting another forum which will be more focused on being a forum versus being a CMS. I think I'm going to renew my Xenforo license and buy a few add-ons. We'll see how it goes.

 

I haven't created a list of what IPB has and Xenforo doesn't or vice versa.

If I want to sell anything on IPB you need to buy commerce which is free with Xenforo.

I need to buy radical tags plugin to get what Xenforo offers for prefixes built in.

At this point, I just started playing around with Xenforo. But I see some options which are important missing from IPB and included in Xenforo.

Neither one is ever going to be perfect. There are always pluses and minuses.

 

One of the biggest things for me is that most of IPBs templates suck. That has been a huge sticking point for me vs. Xenforo which has some nice templates. Added, it appears that Xenforo has some logic with their templates. IPBs templates are horrible - each template is a little piece of something. I almost have to make a map of what each template is. There are tons of threads on the IPB forum about the IPB template system. I haven't dug into Xenforo template system, but it appeared to be logical vs. IPBs.

 

There are some pretty nice add-ons for Xenforo. I'm at about $400 all in for the new site. Not too bad. Would be a lot cheaper, but the copyright removal on 2 of the add-ons are $75 a piece.
