wp-login.php password protection url?

is it possible to enter the username and password via a url rather than typing them into popup box?

the centiminmod info created at setup includes a url as below which I thought might do this, but it doesn't seem to work for me. did i misunderstand or is there something else i need to know?

wp-login.php protection Password: yyyy
