Should this be licensable, a fork is definitely coming.
There are quite a few community members/developers pissed off and generally find's Matt's action childish.

It reminds me of the CentOS situation of 2009. With also a single person as the only Keymaker to the domains.

Back to Wordpress: Wordpress is factually also a fork of b2/cafelog. There is plenty that can be done and I think some things are going to change. Since once again and again, it appears that a single person with access to key domains, does not prove to be a good move in an open source community project.

Although I do not know Matt personally, he seems me as more of a writer than a talker. Not really smart to conduct contract negotiations, 'blackmail and make ultimatums' through Instant messaging (IM) apps. And since IM is very accessible, a conversation is easy to read to known to the solicitor, and can be even copied. Countless examples suddenly pop up. That says more than enough.

For example. I may not even use IM, when I hire staff, for various reasons.

Aren't there many of them already? Most people just go straight to Wordpress because of the name's popularity.

Several large companies might need to join forces to get a fork to "stick" with the majority.

Exactly as you describe, 'several major parties will have to be able to offer an alternative'.

For this before, apparently there was no viable user case, if you ask me. However, as @eva2000 points out, several parties have now woken up and confronted someone head on Automattic et al. and 'dealing with Matt', where I also do believe that the actual action will be taken on at least 1 fork. 'Single point of failure' and a 'bullying' CEO, truthful or not (that's not up to me), is not a good combination anno 2024 in the snowflake, WOKE generation.

I think if Matt continues on this journey he will end up like the OpenOffice <> LibreOffice case, with the end result being that.

But that's also a phraseology, don't pin me down on it.

They went hunting for security issues in WP Engine's ACF plugin:
    x.com
    CVE Website

And they're giving WP Engine 30 days before they disclose the vulnerability publicly.

If WPEngine is blocked or not. That is 1 but the most important thing. It doesn't make any sense as the standard is a: "90-day disclosure deadline policy".

"As is standard, they have 30 days to issue a fix before public disclosure", is based on nothing but putting unnecessary pressure on, and that seems to be the point. Once again an excuse to make it 'unnecessarily' difficult for the direct competitor.
