    Wordpress attack on WP Engine:

    WP Engine is NOT WordPress
    WP Engine is not WordPress

WP Engine sends a cease and desist letter to Wordpress/Automattic:

Wordpress silently changes their trademark usage:

Yup been reading this drama and came across the exact same info, seems Wordpress.com/Matt is going for cash grab against the more successful Wordpress centric business online!

interesting to see how this plays out :)

Looks like they're blocking Admin Panel updates now for WP Engine customers:

It looks like they're running an ad campaign to steal WP Engine customers while trying to get them angry enough to complain:

I was at the closing session at WordCamp US when Matt started this nonsense. He started praising Bluehost (a Digital Newfold product) and most people were like...WTF. The room was silent and stunned.

People took sides quickly. It was either "WP Engine wants a free ride." or "Matt went full Elon and you never go full Elon."

IMHO, this is off the rails. Check out this Cease and Desist Letter from WP Engine's lawyers.

According to the video a streamer did with Matt:
It seems it was either 8% of the revenue or contributing development time to Wordpress core.

Wow to be there in person to experience that moment! Bet you didn't think it would go as far as it has with blocking off wordpress.org access!

It still seems kind of extreme. Kind of like the PHP Foundation cutting off CPanel because they are using some mods they don't like.

In the end, the customers are the ones getting hurt. There's something like 1.5 million sites on WP Engine.

Yeah. Bet this is forcing a lot of Wordpress folks into thinking about their own situations and how to safeguard they own operations.

Probably a good idea to setup a Wordpress plugin/theme mirror system for own private use where you can pull in updates outside of your own network/ASN. Or at least setup a HTTP Forward proxy for WP_PROXY_HOST configuration WP_HTTP_Proxy – Class | Developer.WordPress.org
