Linode folks posted a nice guide at Take Control of Your Virtual Server Migration

One of the biggest benefits to running your own Virtual Private Server is the ability to run your server from any location. Because your server is “virtual,” essentially meaning it exists as data, it is not tied to any specific hardware. Consequently, you can choose to run your server from any of our datacenters, moving it around as you please.

When you initially create a Linode, you must select a location for it. However, one of the biggest advantages to working on a cloud host is that your Linode’s location can be changed at your discretion.

You’re able to power down your Linode, configure its migration, and then transfer it to a different datacenter. When you turn the Linode back on from its new location, it’s as if nothing has changed.

Very nice. Also they have a feature which I thought it did not exist that when the server we were at failed, it did pass all the VM's into another server not needing to do anything but wait a bit.

Yeah failed hardware migration to another node is probably the same or similar process to the above
