I do PHP development with PHPStorm and I am frequently copying between 1 and 10 files to my development server.

I am using 123.09beta01 freshly updated on host.us.

The problem is that it takes a long time for the transfer to start. The files transfer quickly, but it takes a long time to start the transfer. It may take 5 seconds to start the transfer, then 2 seconds to transfer 10 files.

I connect using my root account and private key.

Any ideas how to cut this sftp connection time?

are you connecting to dev server via hostname or ip address ? try ip address to avoid a DNS lookup

I have a hosts file on windows that connects to the server over my private vpn.

This way I can work on several domains securely. The fire wall is locked down to only allow access over my vpn.

I use this same setup to (without the vpn) to work with several shared hosting services. I have tried this without centminmod and it works quickly...

does your sftp client have verbose debug logging ? try enabling that to see where the delays are

Just tested myself as I also use VPN to connect to my centmin mod servers via sftp and ssh. Tested on ssh public key based sftp access and for me it was fast.

I have been trying to get the pure-ftp account to work, but it does not seem to want to take my password..... I just changed it....

if you had been trying pure-ftpd account before root sftp, you may have sometimes temp blocked yourself in CSF Firewall due to pure-ftpd connection limiting or failed logins. Though if you white listed your VPN ip(s) and added them to /etc/csf/csf.ignore you should be excluded/exempt.

See FAQ items 40 & 41 for details and clues if you are trying to connect from many devices within a local lan to centmin mod servers.

My VPN is white listed... I was trying to use the ftp account set up with the vhost. I changed the password so I could be sure that was not a problem.

I was hoping this might be something quick, but I am about out of time to mess with it now.

It is just a annoyance, it takes 8 seconds to start, then about 2 seconds to transfer 10 files. There must be something else on my side and I don't have any ftp apps that give me any more information.

It works for you, so I will tinker on it as I get a chance.

    Thanks for the help
