A simple solution could be, to give users a choice menu when installing.
Very simple. Whether you want automatic updates and if so security or feature related.

Well enough sites that keep Wordpress security/cleaners like Sucuri in business heh for app level compromise and depending what's in those apps, could lead to server compromise.

Anyway, back on topic of this thread :)

    Yes yo can.

And since it's open source you could modify anything. This is a principle issue. Give people a choice.

This pushing and shoving of software versions without notification is starting to get more and more annoying. You see it almost in every software sector. A small introduction with some options is sufficient.

I'm already using WP Super Cache but the Wordpress admin panel is slow. Would the Redis Object Cache plugin alongside WP Super Cache help speed up the backend?

I can see it from both sides as user and developer for Centmin Mod. If there were crucial security updates, it would be nice to update everyone's Centmin Mod installations :) But yeah the choice is up to end user whether to update ultimately.

Depends on what is slowing WP admin side down.

I must admit I am surprised to see Yoast is still so popular with you guys here.

After several years of using the premium version of Yoast SEO I replaced its functionality with feature-specific plugins and I don't run any "SEO" plugins at all. What features are you guys using it for?

To me it's better having one plugin that does all the stuff you want instead of having to do work and find multiple when a developer can drop it the next day and you lose all the data you input into it.

You know you're safe with Yoast and that they'll keep it updated.

I'm wondering if you ever tested WP-Rocket + Redis against these free options?

Haven't tested paid options as 1. cost money and 2. not all allow unattended automated install + configuration which would be required by centmin.sh menu option 22 routines :)

makes sense. Another one I can think of is Breeze - Breeze – WordPress Cache Plugin

    It's free.

They basically took WP-Rocket's code and changed some variable names.

It's "made" by Cloudways and their default caching plugin. I did some benchmarking comparisons with my Centmin Linode/Clouflare/Cache Enabler and Cloudways/Breeze and the results were close.

Yeah heard of Breeze as well. Though the move I look at Super Cache plugin by Wordpress creators it's grown feature wise to probably rival what I am looking at as a Cache Enabler alternative - mainly I'm looking at requirement to save cached items as pre-compressed (gzip/brotli) HTML cached files.

    Looks interesting.
Where can I find the fact that Breeze is based on the source of Rocket?
And finally, is this a hard fork of Rocket or does Cloudways actively sync Rocket's code?

Nginx cache. (Seems Centmin is using it as fastcgi btw)
This is the official way to cache website content, supported by the Nginx team itself and already built in.

The use of Redis requires various extra software i.e. external Nginx Redis modules. Most of those just over 4, 5 years old without any update. The Redis Wordpress plugin and Redis self. This could causes Nginx upgrade problems, as for example it is currently not possible to upgrade to Nginx 1.23.

But also Wordpress could break. As Centmin is checking 3 times a day for update automatically. For example. Upgrading automatically and unattended to a new Wordpress version. When there is a plugin in between that can't keep up with your installation then you are left with a crashed WordPress site.

So many extra modules, plugin and program also gives extra debug issues when your website experiences problems. After all, you have to examine many more components.

In conclusion. In my opinion, there is absolutely no reason to use Redis for Wordpress.
Unless you have one of the largest Wordpress sites in the world with huge numbers of logging-in users.

But that's also because of my philosophy. Less is more. The more code the more possible instability, problems, etc. And thus have to make unnecessary use of valuable time.
Keep the setup as simple as possible and focus on the content.

Let's preface this with the following:
If you have any recommendations, what plugins would work better than the listed ones, I'm very happy for all and every input!

And no, I never use all of these on one site. It is more like "my WP-Toolkit" where I pick from what I need.

    A+++ (almost every site)
    • Antispam Bee
    • Query Monitor
    • Code Snippets
    • Comment Hacks
    A (more often than not)
    • Classic Editor
    • Elementor (Paid)
    • Rank Math SEO (Paid) or Yoast (Paid)
    • Borlabs Cookie (Paid) or Real Cookie Banner (Paid)
    • WP Rocket (Paid)
    • Autoptimize (Paid)
    • TinyPNG (Payed)

B (happyly using it on some pages)
    • Advanced Custom Fields (Paid)
    • Custom Post Type UI
    • Co-Authors Plus
    • MultilingualPress (Paid)
    • MultilingualPress Yoast SEO Sync
    • Pretty Links
    • FV Gravatar Cache
    • Multisite Enhancements
    • Multisite Language Switcher
    • LazyLoad Plugin by WP-Rocket
    • Issues and Series for Newspapers, Magazines, Publishers, Writers
    • AffiliateWP (Paid)
    • EasyDigitalDownloads (Paid)
    • AAWP (Paid)
    • wpschema (paid)

Looking to replace because lack of updates
    • Reading Time WP
    • Title Experiments Free
    • WP Ajaxify Comments

    Yoast vs Rank Math
I'm really feeling indifferent here. It depends on my day, what I use. I would love to finally find a killer argument to stick with one (and only pay one)...

Borlabs Cookie or Real Cookie Banner
I started to switch from Borlabs to Real Cookie Banner because Borlabs was really stagnating on features. Almost a year and no new improvements. If you develop a plugin full-time, I feel like there is always something to optimize, improve on. Especially if your product has design elements. So I switched to Real Cookie Banner and for about half a year it was fine, but now they are also slowed down to Borlabs level.
I'm currently looking for a plugin to build this: Forced All Cookies to guests (+ads), only essential cookies to (paid) registered users. Any Ideas?
