2cpu / 4gb RAM VPS

    Moving a database server to something a little better.

    Linode and Vultr have these servers available starting at about 20 USD/month. Digital Ocean lists their comparable offering at 40 USD/month.

    Am I missing something? Why would somebody grab a droplet at double the price?

    They wouldn't especially when DigitalOcean uses slower clocked CPUs ! But if you mean a dedicated database server, then shouldn't you have the database server as close to your web server as possible ? Preferably within the same datacenter unless you plan to use MySQL with TLS/SSL connections between 2 different datacenters ?

    Linode is my preferred, hence why this forum is hosted on Linode ;) :D

    Actually, I'm moving a external database sever to be on the same instance as the web server, just to downsize and save some headaches. lol Thanks George.

    Oh merging/downsizing I see :)

    You might just go with Linode $40 8GB, 4 cpu plan instead. Best bang for buck at $10/cpu and either get Intel Xeon E5-2680v2, E5-2680v3, or E5-2697v4 :)

    Totally agree with @eva2000 +1 for Linode.
    Feature, price wise. Linode is unbeatable.

    If the location is not available at Linode, then Upcloud.
    Digital ocean farm is getting old.
