Hi I have noticed a few topics about this issue, but unfortunately they dont seem to have a complete solution! Links: https://community.centminmod.com/threads/i-am-desperate-for-help.10015/#post-42923 https://community.centminmod.com/threads/ftp-is-broken.10037/page-2 https://community.centminmod.com/th...-ftp-connection-timout-error.9850/#post-42095

my install is a beta, option 22 wordpress. using the auto-generated ftp credentials.

i have made sure that it's set to passive, i've whitelisted my IP wit csf -a MYIPADDRESS

every time, filezilla and winscp just time out. really annoying. any idea how to fix it?

could it be due to the fact that it's hosted by Google Cloud Platform?

for filezilla tried setting to max concurrent connections = 1 and see ?

how long before times out ? how many files you transferring ?

does Google Cloud have it's own front facing firewall ? if so you need to white list TCP ports 30001 to 50011 as well as 21

yes, i have tried to set max concurrent connections to 1, but this doesn't help.

i'm not transferring any files - i am unable to connect at all. this is what it says:

    Status: Connecting to 104.198.154.84:21...
Error: Connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivity
Error: Could not connect to server
    Status: Waiting to retry...
    Status: Connecting to 104.198.154.84:21...
Error: Connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivity
Error: Could not connect to server

I have a feeling that the error might be linked to Google Cloud Platform. Have you ever tried this out successfully on their environment? Thanks

If you can't connect at all then it's firewall related. I haven't tried Google Cloud as it's too expensive for bandwidth at US$170-190/TB for Asian/India region !

Believe you need to properly setup your Googel Compute Firewall Using Networks and Firewalls | Compute Engine Documentation | Google Cloud Platform

i have actually found GCP to be quite cheap compared to alternatives - you can get $300USD free trial credit here which is really useful: Sign Up For Your Free Trial  |  Google Cloud Platform

so, to be clear - you are suggesting that i manually add a firewall exception for tcp on port 21 for my local IP address? thanks

    magic. it worked!

it was the Google Cloud Platform firewall that was blocking FTP access.

for anyone encountering this problem - we have to go to Networking > Firewall Rules > Create Firewall Rule.

then you just add the local IP address and set it to accept tcp traffic

yeah that would work or for normal users would need TCP port 21 and 30001-50011

not cheap if you have non-USA majority Asian/Oceania traffic though and still more expensive than AWS EC2 bandwidth in general. Credit is only for 60 days. I'd definitely need longer than 60 days heh
