UltraVPS offering 50% off annual KVM VPS prices

Just saw that UltraVPS (the VPS arm of Versaweb) is offering 50% off their annual VPS prices - use coupon 'FALL15'.

I just pulled the trigger on a 4gb/4core machine for $125 for a year and will be shifting some sites there later today. That's insanely cheap for a KVM VPS... At Linode, it's $40 a month for this same box.

Will be very curious to see if the SSD speeds hold up.

Mine working great as well. However, note that prices have gone up significantly and they no longer offer the 50% off lifetime plan.

 

To follow up here, I had a network issue with my UltraVPS node: Cannot ping remote server; how can I debug local networking misconfiguration vs my IP is blocked? - Server Fault

Their support person has been rather useless--clearly not emails and saying things like 'the remote server must have blocked your IP' when my previous email said `traceroute` was showing the problem existed on the localhost before it even got to an external network. I suspect in this case, the underlying problem actually resides with SolusVM since it still uses the deprecated NETMASK setting in its default network config setup rather than the newer PREFIX setting, so I doubt it's their fault. However, I was annoyed that the first-tier support person either was in such a hurry that they didn't read my email, or didn't understand basic network debugging.

I'm still very happy with what I've got--$125 annually for a 4gb/4core KVM based node is a very good price, just know that if you're not comfortable debugging your own stuff with the help of the folks on ServerFault, then you should probably look elsewhere.

I suspect they rolled it out as new brand so that existing ultravps customers don't find it and say "hey, can I get this new cheaper pricing". It's even cheaper--8core/8gb KVM node is $88 a year which is totally nuts when Linode is charging $80 a year for a similar box. Again, just don't expect much in the way of support.
