I have been trying to install xenforo 2 at xf2.utahfishkeepers.us, but I think the issue is unrelated. Whenever I go to Utah Fishkeepers it just says
    This site can’t be reached
utahfishkeepers.us took too long to respond.

I am trying to visit www.utahfishkeepers.us. I added a vhost for xf2.utahfishkeepers.us using
    Code (Text):
    nv -d newdomainx.com -s n -u YOURFTPUSERNAME
and then I used the vhost generator to generate a non-ssl vhost and I added it and tried to upload the XenForo 2 files to xf2.utahfishkeepers.us with simultaneous connections disabled. I should have just uploaded the zip. I ran into the same FTP issue, so I tried to use SFTP as root, but I had to add root under allowusers and I did that. After I saved the file with root under allowusers, putty just stopped working and www.utahfishkeepers.us started taking too long to respond. Then I rebooted the vps, restarted sshd, restarted nginx and I still couldn't connect. I am still able to connect using the linode web console.

sounds like csf firewall temp blocked your ISP ip again.

so check if ip is blocked
    Code (Text):
    csf -g YOURISPIPADDRESS

once unblocked, use the recommended zip upload method and extraction - it's faster and ensures all files are uploaded. It's how I do all my uploads for any web app or script :)

Thanks, that was the issue. I connected to my other wifi network and it is working now.

The ISP operates a bunch of wifi hotspots near where I live and whenever I have trouble with the home wifi, I just sigh into the ISP operated wifi and it blocked the ISP operated wifi IP address.

Yup that would cause problems for some as CSF Firewall is there to protect you. You might want to use a VPN with dedicated IP when using wifi for security reasons and also whitelisting that VPN ip in csf firewall :)

I never use wifi without a VPN connection for security reasons anyway :D

So I ended up just trying to upload the zip, but when i extracted it it extracted inside of the /upload folder. I tried to move it out, but I messed up the file permissions and now I can't delete it and upload the correct zip. Is there a command I can run to just delete the /upload directory?

    output for
    Code (Text):
    ls -lah /home/nginx/domains/newdomainx.com/zips

the zip should be in /home/nginx/domains/newdomainx.com/zips and extracted zip should have /home/nginx/domains/newdomainx.com/zips/upload directory

    I didn't use xf2_config.sh. So should I run chown -R nginx:nginx /home/nginx/domains/newdomainx.com/public?
