Only 2 types I have used are StartSSL free SSL certificates and AlphaSSL SSL Wildcard certificates.

I just renewed one of my free StartSSL SSL certificates from StartSSLâ„¢ Certificates & Public Key Infrastructure.

My AlphaSSL Wildcard is coming up for renewal in a few months. So planning on getting a 5yr AlphaSSL Wildcard from GarrisonHost - AlphaSSL Certificate for US$149 for 5yrs = US$29.80 per year for Wildcard SSL certificate.

If you have a free open source project, you can qualify for GlobalSign free SSL certificate too SSL - GlobalSign Free SSL Certificates for Open Source projects ! | Centmin Mod Community

Curious which do you use and for how much ?

edit: ended up renewing my SSL certificate using GGSSL Wildcard certificates :D

Rapidssl $10 USD per year I think.

    haha per year !

    Yeah know of namecheap's SSL.

Also there's https://www.gogetssl.com/ssl-certificates/ which has cheaper prices than namecheap SSL

    namecheap 5yr Positive Wildcard = US$85/yr

    versus

    gogetssl 5yr Positive Wildcard = US$59.97/yr https://www.gogetssl.com/wildcard-ssl-certificates/comodo-positive-ssl-wildcard/

I myself am mainly interested in Wildcard SSL https://www.gogetssl.com/wildcard-ssl-certificates/ :)

Multi-domain + Wildcard SSL still expensive, cheapest I have found is Comodo Multi-Domain Wildcard SSL https://www.gogetssl.com/san-ucc-ssl-certificates/comodo-multi-domain-wildcard-ssl/ US$158.58/yr for 3yrs for up to 3 domains included Wildcard SSL supported - so ~US$53 per domain per year. Additional domains are US$60 per domain.

What are the advantages of using SSL in a forum such as this?

Namecheap/SSls.com for me. Using the Comodo $8.95 / year ones.

I find Comodo Positive ssl is not supporting older browsers.
Rapidssl support most, and for Positive ssl you will have to concatenate 3 crt file where as on rapidssl, only 2 (both excluding root crt) :)

I myself implement ssl just to have SPDY ;)

Yeah @dorobo for most of use SSL is more for performance with Google SPDY/3.1 pairing than for security. You can read up on some of the performance benefits that Google SPDY/3.1 based SSL provides over traditional SSL on the site at http://centminmod.com/nginx_configure_https_ssl_spdy.html

You can also check out my Centmin Mod Nginx Google SPDY SSL World Flags demo https://spdy.centminmod.com/flags.html (Recreating Apache mod-spdy World Flags demo equivalent) and comparison video at https://spdy.centminmod.com/spdytest.html

Just a quick heads up, I have in the future plans for paid premium forum member upgrades with additional features on offer for forum members and one of those is bundling SSL certificates for your domain (I have a SSL reseller account now so taking advantage of cheaper prices :) ). The premium forum member upgrades are to support the forums and it's operating and license and hosting costs only) and does not include Centmin Mod technical support.

Something to look forward to ;)

I'm using the StartSSL Organization Verified from that same link.
George, do you have any up-to-date guide on how to get their certificate to be SHA-2 ready, created trusted cert, stapling on, etc?
I couldn't find the conf content that you use for this site to get the best score.

    Many thanks.

You're welcome and yes Centmin Mod's source compilation while takes longer than YUM package installs, does allow you to walk along that edge of technology more easily :D

Just so you know, I have just successfully moved my entire live site to the new dedicated server from Rackspace to ReliableSite.net.
Literally it took 10minutes from shutting down old site to updating DNS record.

I'm only able to do now all by myself because of powerful tools like Centmin Mod. Thank you.
