    hide check_git_major_branch notice from compact dmotd mode in 140.00beta01

    The "latest stable: X / latest beta: Y — URL" line was too wide for the
    80-col compact footer (~120 chars on a 140 host). gitenv_askupdate
    already names the user's current branch in the compact footer, so
    hiding the branch-relationship info there leaves no functional gap for
    compact users.

    Changes:
    - check_git_major_branch early-returns under DMOTD_COMPACT='y' (or
    DMOTD_FANCY='y') so the info line is never pushed to the merged
    status footer
    - non-compact arm unchanged — still renders the verbose multi-line
    panel with aligned "Latest stable / Latest beta" labels and the
    per-branch forum URL
    - removed the now-unused _forum_url_short local (compact-only helper)
