Please fill in any relevant information that applies to you:
    • CentOS Version: CentOS 7 64bit
    • Centmin Mod Version Installed: 130.00beta01
    • Nginx Version Installed: 1.25.1
    • PHP Version Installed: 8.2.7
    • Cloudflare
So I'm towards the end of my xenforo forum development, then I'm aware CentOS 7 is also towards the end of life.

Should I migrate to another OS now before it goes to production?

If yes, which one should I move to?

Would it be very complicated considered the setup/config/data, etc?

    Thanks a lot.

For Centmin Mod, choice between AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux https://community.centminmod.com/threads/centmin-mod-el8-roadmap-for-2023-2024.24290/

So it's advisable for me to start a new Alma8 server and have centminmod and xenforo installed. Move everything from my existing CentOS 7 *now*?

Or should I go ahead with my server and put it to production, hopefully in a couple of weeks, and wait till EOL of CentOS 7 next year to do the migration to Alma 8?

For folks like yourself it would depend on what applications you use and whether the operating system and it's package management system has the packages you need. So usually in any evaluation, you do test installs for Centmin Mod on either OS and see if it does what you need and then decide.

For Xenforo specific use, I'd be confident on AlmaLinux 8 or Rocky Linux 8. If you use other software that Centmin Mod doesn't install by default, then you'd need to test that on the OS you want to use.

Thanks! I replied in your thread with the basic details, but I've been waiting for "the big announcement" from eva telling everyone that things are fully fleshed out and everyone should switch to the new OS. From what I have been keeping track of thus far, it seemed like the recommendation for most people was to wait till 2024 for CentOS 7 to officially be EOL, and by then eva would have everything ready. Not sure if this is correct, and eva's last comment in this thread didn't really cover that.

Oh, BTW brij, your method nearly doubled the size of my drive. Is that expected, or could there be some clean up commands after to clear out old CentOS 7 stuff?

Do I understand from this that you want to switch to new forum software and "also" new operating system? If yes, it is a bridge too far in my opinion.

Should something go wrong with your forum migration, it will cause too much hassle.
My advice: clone the server, that you know will work well and to your liking. Switch to the new forum software.

If that works properly then install EL8 on a fresh server + fresh CMM installation. And migrate the properly working new forum software to it.
