    Hello,

We have been using script for almalinux 8 and it works very well. When it will be available for public use?

Glad to hear the private EL8 installer has been working well :) As to public release for EL8 support, I am still balancing my time between my paid client work (which keeps my lights on) and Centmin Mod related developments.

For Centmin Mod, I only add or release features when I am willing to provide some level of support for them. Unfortunately, I don't have the time between paid client work and additional Centmin Mod behind-the-scenes developments, which will accompany a public EL8 supported release. There are other things I need to work on before such a public EL8 supported release is appropriate. Private EL8 beta testers will be the first to beta test some of these things in the coming weeks :D

With that said, it seems the safe bet for public/new installs is still CentOS 7? I need to rebuilt a box that I've been using for 3 years now. Is that still the way to go? I would had to migrate and devote all of that time to find out the latest and greatest is out very soon.

CentOS7 is not recommended as it will be EOL next year.

Yeah CentOS 7 still has another year for May 2024 like @rdan stated. When will you need to rebuild the box?

I've granted you access to the 130.00beta01 EL8 beta testing group at https://community.centminmod.com/forums/almalinux-8-rocky-linux-8-beta-testing.64/ so BEFORE you rebuild, you can maybe test the EL8 installer (sticky thread at https://community.centminmod.com/th...-mod-on-almalinux-8-rocky-linux-8-oses.23261/) on a test server to see if it something you'd want to try before deciding on CentOS 7 rebuild.

It's still private EL8 beta for above mentioned reasons as I don't have the free time to do all the testing and bug fixing for EL8 support while also working with my paid clients. So the installs are as is. I'd say the private EL8 beta state is around 85% of where I want it to be right now. I am working on routines to automate CentOS 7 to AlmaLinux 8/Rocky Linux 9 nginx site data/data files/mysql database migration as well. EL8 private beta testers at https://community.centminmod.com/forums/almalinux-8-rocky-linux-8-beta-testing.64/ will be the first people to test such data migration routines when they're ready (not yet ready).

That's awesome! FYI, mine is installed (beta/staging server). I will post install times in the proper thread.

The my other server just stop serving. I'm not 100% sure why... No problems via logs, so I used one of my handy dandy backups and restored to a newly build CMM server (pre beta, as I didn't have access) and it's all working fine again. I even restored a Linode backup from a day or to see if it would help and nothing.

@eva2000 , could you please invite me to EL8 beta test repo?
As 5 years long centminmod user, I could test the beta repo with various way and report issues/bugs.

We only had a few issues at the start of the beta. We use the BETA for EL8 for production servers since some time now with great success. But we are able to handle most issues ourself without needing any support from @eva2000 .

We would not use CentOS7 for any new servers today.

Great to hear. For issues specific to Centmin Mod, be sure to let me know too so I can fix them on my end if needed :)

@eva2000 - I have been using CMM for 4+ years and am very familiar with it. Would it be possible to get an invite to the beta?

    Thank you

I personally feel that its time to make el8 script public as its much stable and we are already behind many control panels publicly providing even el9 support

That's the plan eventually - working on the automated testing right now as well - as that has been helpful in revealing a lot of bugs that I have been fixing in code etc. Saving me 1000s of hours in testing time across AlmaLinux/Rocky Linux/Oracle Linux EL8 and EL9 :D

Right now beta invited users get additional permissions in the private EL8 beta forum too i.e. longer thread/post edit times, larger quotas for images updated/attached to threads etc which makes their bug reporting easier.
