LOL, bit busy my mum was due for spinal surgery today, but they cancelled it due to not enough beds. This is 4th cancellation since last year - first 3 due to Covid! It's being rescheduled soon so my time is focussed elsewhere.
won't work, I have checks in place that would prevent CentOS 8 from working right now

Alma Linux also didn't have secure boot at launch. Until recently, and thus broke OpenSCAP Security itself.
Secure boot for Rocky Linux is on its way *, and released later just like Alma Linux.

No errata is no problem if provided the source RPM's and remain available, update after update.
To be able to reproduce everything from the errata (changelog).

Both Alma Linux and Rocky Linux have a foundation that is supported by a commercial company.
In short, both are dirt throwing because both are fighting for the same ex-CentOS users.
And that is often a dirty game.

In addition, it applies to both Alma and Rocky, if one sells oneself or the sponsorship stops.
Both are end of story just like CrapOS uuh... CentOS. Nothing more nothing less.

Wow it's started I guess the fight for mind and user share from ex-CentOS users. But competition is good for the end users, it motivates both Rocky Linux and AlmaLinux to improve their respective RPM Linux based distributions.

@buik do you know of any companies that actually sponsor and provide financial support to BOTH AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux? I can imagine they'd be fighting for that share too. I could imagine it would be a hard pill to swallow if a sponsor said to Rocky Linux, sorry I already donated/sponsored AlmaLinux so not donating to Rocky Linux and vice versa.

AWS is on both Alma- and Rocky- site as sponsor, partner, supporter....
The problem is that there is nowhere a public statute exactly what, the sponsor provides them.

It could be manpower, free compute credits, hardware, money, pr or?...

For example CloudLinux has committed a $1 million annual endowment to support the Almalinux project. But how this is specified is not stated in a statute.

CloudLinux is already rebuilding RHEL for its CloudLinux distro.
Then it is very easy if the infrastructure and the manpower are already there.
To copy this to AlmaLinux. Only rebranding is needed in the code, certs and design.

Without a statute, it wouldn't surprise me if this 1 million was simply already invested in CloudLinux broadly (Cloudlinux OS, Kernelcare....) And that they just added AlmaLinux to that portfolio.

Rocky Linux did discuss this on their forums somewhat at How are we going to use aws ( or azure/google) and Rocky's Infrastructure Platform

Perhaps there is a conflict of interest here.
At least from how I am used to it in the country where I live.

To prevent a foundation from having a profit motive, or other prohibited activities. Everything related to integrity, like gifts must be made public through a statute.

What Rocky writes is much too short and is absolutely not accepted here. But I don't know how this is arranged in the US.

    Here its like:

Im going to continue using Centos 7 till June 2024, and at that time i will think what is the best alternative. It even passed on my mind to migrate to something like Debian.

    I still have 3 years.

I believe they do disclose some of this somewhere. Haven't looked really right now.

Yeah there's still time to see how things develop for both AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux - both distros have strong motivations to do good for their respective distros, just need to see how well they execute this in their development/management and to see how web hosts/cloud providers support them. Already seeing a lot of web hosts announce out of the box images for them both at least. Linode.com has announced both AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux OS support for their Linode VPS servers.
