Nice - always great to have newer versions of key software :) Seems Redhat 9's development is faster than previous versions. Probably trying to keep up with Ubuntu like alternatives which generally have newer versions of software etc.

Hmwha a bit. 3 to 5 years between new releases.
EL is al about backporting. Ubuntu is way too fast with introducing new software. Same goes for SUSE. Even in existing releases. You shouldn't want that in enterprise and especially not in mission critical (which I am in).

True but I guess it depends on the software too. Hence why Centmin Mod has a mix of using system versions, and source/custom RPM versions built with newer software i.e. Nginx/PHP and newer GCC compiler and GNU Gold linker and alternative memory allocators like jemalloc for Nginx (and soon optionally via Microsoft's mimalloc). One thing newer Redhat 8/9 OS brings that I have more difficulty with trying is the newer glibc system versions which have had so many performance improvements.

Newer software is no problem and even a plus for those who want to. For that, you already have SCL or APPstream. The problem is that Ubuntu and SUSE still want to install new key components rather than backporting. Whether to still offer the old version.

For example a new kernel. Or in SUSE's case just replace it for a new one when specific service packs are released. That's really not about anything.
