Yeah nice to see those changes, although my main problem with the EL8.2 branch is still no LTS possibility on the base OS plus APPSTREAM release.
Only the BaseOS is actually LTS (10 years +).

Secondly EPEL8, we don't need to talk about that. That is obvious :)

Yeah probably that the RedHat AppStream is too new and they have no confidence in it's long term stability right now.

    Totally agreed.

The APPStream mechanism is really an improvement over The Software Collections (SCL) back in the old days, as you can easily switch main versions back and forward. Without chitchatting with config files on various locations (/etc, /opt etc).

Problem is indeed stability if you ask me.
For example: PHP 7.3 for RHEL 8 is released only a few months ago and already EOL in about a year and a half. That's a no no for critical or mission critical -systems.

For example we're only now considering RHEL 7 more or less stable at work.
With the first RHEL 7 clusters yet to be released.

The solution is so easy as pie. RHEL 8 with APPStream as LTS (+ 10 years) and every 6 month sub-releases with fresh APPStream. More ore less Centos 7 plus SCL on roids. Everyone happy, little effort. So Red Hat please!

I don't see LTS happening until at least Redhat 8.4 or 8.5 release. It's going to take quite some time to settle down.

Unfortunately I don't see any LTS in the future at all.
This is clearly a choice. Made by Red Hat.

If there is a need for new software you can already choose for Unstabluntu :(
