Linode seems to be a much more reliable service then Vultr will ever be. I've had some pretty serious issues with the Vultr services lately and I just can't deal with it any longer. I've looked over the amazing benchmarks @eva2000 presented in this forum on various services and it seems the clear winner was Linode.

    What are your thoughts?

I have a few accounts in London with Vultr and 1 account with 8GB ram / 4CPU cores

I'm currently using Vultr, Linode and Ramnode.
But I always find Ramnode [Premium] KVM SSD the most faster on CPU and SSD speed.

Ramnode does have faster single threaded performance but you're limited to 4 cpu thread/cores max.

If you need more than 4 cpu cores or faster network connectivity (i.e. 40Gbps in) or the easy ability to clone and/or scale a Linode KVM VPS, then Linode is better. It's why this forums is hosted on Linode :D

hmmm - I like to have 1 Provider for all of em just to keep things a bit organized and maintained - Seems that Ramnode doesn't go up any higher then 4GB ram - 4CPU core where Linode goes up quite a bit ( flexibility )

Yeah one of the selling points for why I chose Linode for this forum's hosting. When forum's traffic picks up, it's much easier for me to scale from current 4GB Linode KVM VPS to something higher :)

There is so much more you can do in Linode then Vultr. Now that I have looked over Linodes various tools, I feel extremely restrictive using Vultr lol!

What is your typical Deployment? Deploy --- > Add image ( centOS 7 ) ----> load Centminmode?

Yeah pretty much it, deploy with either CentOS 6.x or 7.x, then install Centmin Mod :)

Just select 512MB Swap, and the rest default.

I have a temp VPS setup on OVH which is really nice. It isn't the fastest connection in the world but for $33 a month?
VPS Cloud: Flexible Cloud hosting - OVH
They also have a nice Public Cloud which offers a nice selection:
OVH Public Cloud: Our Cloud Computing solutions - OVH
When I finally make the move to Centminmod at the end of this month, I'm getting their dedicated servers which are too cheap to resist.
    Dedicated Servers - OVH

A few of the things I love about OVH besides their pricing:
    1. Extra dedicated IPs only cost $3 per ip (on time fee). Then they are free as long as you have the service. On one of my old servers I had 10 ips and they never asked to justify what I was using them for.
    2. DDoS protection on all their services. They've blocked some major attacks - I've gotten courtesy emails about them.
    3. I've never had a problem. Ever. Ever. Besides their trunk getting cut which their SLA ended up giving me a free week for 4 hours of downtime.
    4. On their servers you can add services if you need them - load balancing, extra band, etc. (dedicated only)
    5. They don't offer 1Gbps connections like Ramnode (which I've had in the past and they offer a great service) but most everything is either 250Mbps or 500Mbps with a burst to either 1Gbps or 10Gbps depending on what you get.
I've been really happy with my service there.

I've moved 7 VM's so far and I must say that It's a big difference - I really like Linode. The support is fantastic, They don't give me single ( nonsence ) line answers - It feels good to be cared about - Vultr could care less if you come or go.

Seriously guys? You just ruined my weekend. I wish I didn't see this thread LOL.

We have recently finished moving all of our projects to vultr and some ramnode (from various old school shared and dedicated hosters)

Now you make me wanting to move to linode ))):eek::banghead:

Quick question: is it possible to create a snapshot of Vultr VPS and restore it on linode vps? (and then just tweak things here and there?)

Don't think you can create snapshots on Vultr to restore on Linode, and probably not advisable as Linode uses custom Linux 4.1.x kernels too. Also Vultr limits snapshots to <=10 raise snapshot limit >11 - Vultr so problematic if you do testing on Vultr. I use DigitalOcean for tests as snapshoting seems to work best. Linode snapshot works good too and doesn't seem to have a limit :)

I found that openvz works better for some of our projects and a 512mb ramnode vps can do wonders.

Does linode offer openvz or just kvm?

Linode now defaults to KVM which is the best for scalability and performance overall as you can tune at TCP and kernel level which you can't do on OpenVZ

also for moving Centmin Mod installs folks can chime with their experience and know how at Restore from Backup Scenario | Centmin Mod Community

Linode does supports providing standard distro-kernels (ie using this guide).

indeed it does although I've never used them.. i like linux 4.x kernel TCP improvements - hence another bonus with Linode :D

I see a late night tonight or early morning for us Aussies :)
