With the ending of PHP 5.6 and 7.0 branches for security updates, now PHP has announced PHP 7.1.25 due in December 3, 2018 will be the last for maintenance releases of the PHP 7.1 branch. So after December 3, PHP 7.1 will only get security updates php.internals: PHP-7.1 branch locked, 7.1 is now security-only. So PHP 7.2 branch will be the only regularly maintained branch. Interestingly, according to Remi Collet one of the folks working on PHP, PHP 7.3.0 GA release is on same day December 3, 2018 as PHP 7.1.25 !

From PHP: Supported Versions looks like PHP 7.1 date hasn't been updated and still reads December 1, 2018 as end date for regular support

In my opinion, PHP development of new fatures/versions is going too fast nowadays.
In a world where security increasingly comes before new functions.

PHP is better off with the Kernel release model with mainline, longterm and stable.
But that is, of course, my opinion.

Yeah - though too fast is better than too slow :D

We live in a world where people want sites to be faster and faster. Even Google now ranks higher faster sites. With that in mind, php needs to evolve very fast to be faster, simple as that.
