I had a linode on SG during one year and had to move it since got tired of network issues. Last time I had to report those issues myself and then, they updated SG network status page. I got tired of being a SG monitor

The UK prices are now out for a few more servers. Bit of a bump in monthly over established EU prices.

Must be the cost of power/rates in the UK, and similar if not equal pricing to Germany.

The discovery one is not a bad price, £64.98+vat with 2x480SSD, only 250Mbps - I've not really pushed past this according to the network graphs in linode/nixstats.

A more direct comparison might be the SP-32( no EG30+ avail ).
    UK, 79.99+vat @ 20%,
    France, £59.99. + vat @ 20%.
i.e. £24 minimum bump for a 'UK' location, on-base machines!

So the plus I see in the UK:
Marginally less latency. - 80% of my traffic is UK & 50% of that south of Birmingham. But as mentioned before a hop to GRA from UK pops can't be that much...
A possibly cleaner IP range. - I send via AWS so moot.
Different staff. - Same company philosophy I imagine.
It's UK based. - Whatever that means given we're still in Europe. I have no legal req to host in the UK, only Europe, for now.

    Anything else?

Cost wise it's still very tempting, going from a 24Gb linode + a few satellites is a good saving.

Whilst I know I'm on a single parent/shared node at Linode, I do know they are watching the physical host.
3x##-32 servers in GRA running Galera/HA gives me redundancy, for less to equal monthly spend I have with linode, but more headaches in setup :)

I think the only feature I'd miss is the snapshot, and it's one I've never actually had to use. I tend to snapshot before updates; just in case. Having a daily then 3 and one week old is reassuring too.

TL;DR So more ££ for LDN vs GRA...choices choices.

yeah OVH UK price is much higher now. Believe @Matt moved his OVH UK servers already
so you still have the old price as well ? That was introductory pricing you had though heh

I expect more OVH price increases in the future.
They have invested E400 million, and have opened new centers around the world.

That are being built even faster as mushrooms.
And of course that has to be earned back.

True. But lots of folks forget or weren't around say ~10-15yrs ago when dedicated server costs were around averaging US$400-800/month for hardware that could only handle 20-50% of what current dedicated servers at around US$50-250/month.
    • The server hardware created in past 3-5yrs are able to handle so much more traffic and workloads than past servers IF they are configured and optimised correctly!
    • Nginx, PHP 7+ and MariaDB/MySQL improvements in past 5-6yrs have also allowed folks to theoretically handle more work loads than in the past IF they are configured and optimised correctly!
It's still relatively cheaper these days for dedicated hosting than in the past :)
