:) Support. I guess that's the trade-off if the machine hiccups - you want to know your $ earning system is not going to be offline for days... I've been burnt by dodgy hardware, had a whole batch of dell 410's that did odd things if chassis fans failed... another site had a 10million $ ecommerce on one server, with a 24hr backup cycle, that left a chill on the backbone.

At the cost OVH are asking for, I can run a 3way dedicated 32-L and cover of the reliability challenge. umm.

There's support and there's SLA. If your machine breaks their SLA kicks in and there are set times for repair. Since everything is automated they're notified of something breaking.

Support is defined in different ways. I view support as "how to" and not "my hard drive died" when dealing with OVH.

    OVH infrastructure is Excellent.
OVH support is fine, I always got a response after 1-3 hours.

Support has been OK for me as well. Hardware SLA has been excellent, and I've not had any issues with the OVH branded hardware. I've had issues with SYS, and they fixed it within the hour.

I've got my own Account Manager with OVH now, so anything else I need, I go straight to him :)

I have never looked at OVH until now. This sounds too good to be true:

    Selection_043.png

This is a dedicated server correct? So that means I get 32 total cores, 128GB of ram and 1600GB of usuable storage space with hardware raid?

All for 362 a month? That is almost 200 dollars a month less than reliable source and 4 times the disk space. What am I missing here?

We are looking at moving ChristianForums.com to a new server as we are on an outdated OS now and seeing issues crop up.

Yup, that's correct. They have the cheapest prices.

Right now I have 2 servers and 5 VPSs. All work great.

So once I purchase the server will I be given more options, such as what operating system I wish to run? Right now I get to choose nothing and it is asking me to pay.

see my OVH server benchmark review at https://community.centminmod.com/th...k-32gb-2x240gb-samsung-pm863-ssd-review.9611/

get to select OS and partition scheme :) Just be sure to select linux distro kernel instead of OVH default custom kernel

I'm becoming more tempted. Since using glances and observing steal... Maybe it's because I've just become a noisy IPB4 user :D
My only reservation is hardware issues; whilst rare can occur, and ensuing offline time as a result. The only direct observable stat I have is a few years back I was offline for 1day and wobbly for another 24hours. It took 6 months for traffic to return to normal levels. People simply found other stuff to do.

OVH is pretty good at switching out hardware when there is a fault. Since everything is automated, they're notified right away about any hardware issues / failures.

    I'm ok with that.

It's the restore and rebuild of data etc... imagine you just boarded an 8 hour flight. Ok the sensible people have a backup admin ;) Mine just took a new job and left freelance work, mind you we're both outdoor folk so any good weather day is a bad server work day...

I am sorely tempted, even 3xMC32's should be fine. Now I can back storage of to s3/cloudfront easily and IPB logs/cache isn't so filesystem bound. I say MC as the clock speed is higher and I think that's right for php and 3 way yields 12x4GHz cores plus S3/cloudfront or keycdn push.

You would only restore and rebuilt data if all the disks on the hardware RAID failed. Otherwise, they'd replace the hardware and restart your machine.

No, still only 1.45tb since it's hardware Raid.
I got 2 servers on that specs.

You mean 1.45TB? That is still over triple my current amount.

nice remember though OVH cap bandwidth at 500Mbps not 1Gbps so factor that in if you're doing remote backups.
