    Looks like the sale continues for 72 hours.

    IDK. Most of the discounts for services and VPS / Cloud say 12-month subscription and state that the discount applies only for the first year. The Dedicated servers say Commitment-free. The Gaming Server I got a year ago stayed the same price for as long as I owned the server.

    It's impossible for anyone on that other forum to know how long they last since the sale just started. Unless they spoke to someone from support that told them that. I highly doubt that OVH would only discount 1 month (or as many months that were paid in advance) and then boost the price back to normal rates for the dedicated servers.

    They seem to be combining 3 services into one discount - OVH, Kimsufi, and SoYouStart into one large sale. Maybe the policy is different for the cheaper sites, but I highly doubt that the OVH products get a price boost after the pre-paid amount (referring to dedicated servers).

    Terms at bottom of page say renewal price is the price listed on their website at time of renewal. So only way to take advantage of discount is to pre-pay in advance for at least 3-12 months
    guessing not many folks took up the offers as they aren't as attractive as previous offers

    They have to put that because they're showing the discount for 3 different sites. Let's say I buy a soyoustart server today and the price was listed on ovh. If I'm a no so smart customer I might come back trying to find the renewal price on OVH, when it's time to renew. I might open a support ticket on OVH asking why I can find the renewal rate for my soyoustart server. They're basically saying, you might see the deal on OVH, but after the sale you need to deal with the site that your server is part of.

    I think it's important to remember OVH is the cheapest of the cheap. I highly doubt they're going to pull a fast one on people and increase the sale price without specifically saying that, "the renewal rate is at full price."

    Yeah the wording needs more clarification and you have point on different regional sites having different pricing. Guess they made a typo on TOS for ovh.com.au as it says renewal price is ones listed on ovh uk site heh

    OVH MC-64-OC setup for CentOS 7.4 with distro kernel and custom EXT4 partitioning. Don't think I'd be able to keep this server as long due to the cost of it but going to give it a good month of Centmin Mod testing seeing at it should be fast @4.7-5.0Ghz clocked for Centmin Mod source compiled stuff i.e. nginx, php-fpm and gcc, clang testing.

    OVH MC-64-OC Centmin Mod 123.09beta01 install times - seems yum install part was noticeably slow so could be just temp issues with yum mirrors ? But nginx and php-fpm source compiles are fast. Note 123.09beta01 has added routines to nginx and php-fpm since, so may or may not effect total times.

    To compare CentOS 7.x with distro kernel and 123.09beta01
    • SoYouStart E3-1245v2 32GB 3x120GB = 657.4870s

    • Woah curl installer's YUM times / network was very very slow at 531.6557 seconds compared to usual 60-70 seconds ! As was rest of YUM time 103 vs 70 seconds.
    • As expected nginx and php compile times were faster at higher clocked 4.7-5.0Ghz vs 4.0-4.4Ghz with 8 cpu threads for both setups.

    Will have to figure out why yum downloads are so slow. It looks to be related to EPEL yum repo mirror slowness. The EPEL yum mirror picked up location for mirror.umd.edu.

    Putting yum download slowness aside, Nginx recompiles are nice and fast due to ccache for compiler caching and higher clock speed. Usually on i7 4790K it's around 39-46 seconds. On i7 7700K OC it's around 34.8s

    Centmin Mod 123.09beta01 has a routine to detect if OVH BHS server is in play so to adjust yum mirrors to use OVH's own faster mirror but seems my routine also breaks on OVH BHS6 7700K server as the routline tries to detect file at /etc/machine-info which on my i7 4790K BHS5 server contains
    Code (Text):
    cat /etc/machine-info
    CHASSIS=server
    LOCATION="OVH bhs5, Canada"

    but seems BHS6 7700K OC server doesn't have a file for /etc/machine-info so Centmin Mod routines don't trigger

    maybe need to change detection to look into /etc/resolv.conf for search ovh.net option but that won't tell me which OVH location it is so would need to inspect geoip data
    Code (Text):
    grep -rni ovh /etc/resolv.conf
    3:search ovh.net

    Code (Text):
    curl -4s ipinfo.io/geo/
    {
      "ip": "142.xxx.xxx.xxx",
      "city": "Montreal",
      "region": "Quebec",
      "country": "CA",
      "loc": "45.5040,-73.5747",
      "postal": "H3A"
    }

    More YUM tests for slow EPEL yum, I ran same commands below on my i7 4790K OVH BHS5 and i7 7700K OC OVH BHS6 servers and timed how long they took to complete
    Code (Text):
    yum clean all
    time yum -y install centos-release-scl --disablerepo=rpmforge -v

    • i7 4790K OVH BHS5 = ~9.619s
    • i7 7700K OVH BHS6 = ~54.577s
    For i7 4790K OVH BHS5 mirrors selected

    Even trying OVH monitoring services whitelisting in CSF Firewall doesn't help either https://community.centminmod.com/threads/ovh-icmp-ping-whitelist-for-csf-firewall.11427/#post-48519. i7 7700K OC BHS6 server is slow connecting to EPEL yum mirrors for some reason

    Try going to the next step. As you can see from your post above, the discount wasn't applied until the invoice setup / was generated.

    You purchased the original server at the full price and then the discount was applied on the invoice.

    That sucks. Maybe open a support ticket and ask? I can't imagine that they're only giving a discount for 1 month. That doesn't make much sense.

    i think they want to force folks into longer commits i.e. VPS 12 month commit and dedicated 12 months would be at discounted price - i did try changing terms at order and 12 months on dedicated is at discounted price

    but yeah going to ask
