I was going to post this in a different forum but it seems newbie's like me are only allowed to post in this forum so here goes...

I've been running a small forum on a shared hosting for a while now but would like to expand into a linode or digital ocean VPS and learn some linux server admin basics while I'm at it.

DO and Linode both have a nice collection of documentation for various things but not one that I've seen has anything mentioning Cenmin Mod. Does anyone by chance know of any documentation on how to install centmin mod (for a total newbie) on a DO or Linode VPS and use it to setup a domain to host a xenforo forum? Kind of a start to finish tutorial?

    Thanks in advance.

welcome @Cervent to Centmin Mod Community, Centmin Mod and CentOS Linux :D

Once you complete your intro post, you will be able to post elsewhere on the forums :)

Be sure to keep in mind minimum and recommended resource requirements outlined at Download & Install Nginx on CentOS - CentminMod.com LEMP Nginx web stack for CentOS which has install guide as well link to post-install Getting Started Guide.

You might want to try the 123.09beta01 build as it will be next stable release and well has alot of improvements if you check 2nd post change log at Beta Branch - Centmin Mod .09 beta branch Testing.

There's an old DigitalOcean install guide at DigitalOcean - Centmin Mod Nginx LNMP install on CentOS 7.0 KVM VPS | Centmin Mod Community but you'd want to try the new 123.09beta01 so just use the guide for the 1st part in creating your DO droplet and selecting CentOS 7 OS and install for 123.09beta01 at Beta Branch - Centmin Mod .09 beta branch Testing | Centmin Mod Community

DigitalOcean probably easier for newbies to get a handle on and their snapshot system allows you to make snapshots of working config before you test or try something new/install/update, so you can restore a snapshot if you stuff up. This means no fear in learning or trying things as you can always revert to a previous working snapshot :)

I recommend setting up a test site on DO with Centmin Mod and learning the ropes before doing a live site.
