Not sure yet how can I provision a new server now :( [ATTACH]
No reason to keep Centos 8 that the support is ending at the end of the year and remove Centos 7 that has 4 years of support ahead
No that won't work it's not fully complete support only staging branch. Might want to just contact OVH support and mention CentOS 7 is supported until 2024. But depends on the server. IIRC @tininho mentioned AMD Ryzen 59xx zen2 only has CentOS 8 due to hardware compatibility issues with CentOS 7 - probably Kernel? edit: that was with Hetzner CentOS 8.x - CentOS Project Shifts Focus To CentOS 8 Stream Effectively Ending CentOS 8 In 2021. Maybe same for OVH if it's AMD Ryzen 59xx based ? What OVH server cpu is this for?
Then definitely contact OVH and outline CentOS 8 is EOL next year while CentOS 7 is 2024 and they need to re-add support for. I asked OVH on Twitter too https://twitter.com/centminmod/status/1373038336575700994
Did anyone get any answer of them about bringing back Centos 7 or we must found a way to install it custom ?
Most sysops are Ubuntu minded and think CentOS is just old junk. Better proven, stable software as CentOS is. Then semi closed source, Ubuntu, with its core called snap or whatever it should be called.
For servers i prefer Centos and i think the most software are developed for Centos like server scripts e.t.c
As usual, OVH support not much helpful. [OVHcloud] Unleash compute power with Advance Servers | 1Gbps Unmetered Bandwidth | Private Network | Web Hosting Talk
Via webhostt... Own installation is always preferred, in my view, because then you know what is being installed. A provider always makes adjustments (visible and invisible). If only that they install too many services or almost always set up that annoying Google DNS.
Has anyone tried this Installation type of OVH? Ovh Api I successfully booted up the Centos7 ISO, but can't connect via SSH. I guess I need to continue the installation via some sort of gui on the server IPMI/KVM/VNC.
Haven't tried on OVH but AFAIK you would need VNC/console access as you go through CentOS 7 GUI installer i.e. CentOS 7.x - CentOS 7.4 Minimal ISO Install VirtualBox 5.1. The error is probably due to default ISO boot up doing a media check ? Or you used wrong ISO image.
Your installation media is corrupt. Hash-verify your ISO before continuing. And please verify that you are using the latest ISO. Boot media are usually not numbered. So if you are using and old boot media which is not hardware compatible. You also get weird errors.
Hi all I am having the same issue, its so frustrating. I don't get why they removed CentOS 7. I had a similar issue to rdan above, although i gave up on the bring your own image as it wasnt properly documented and I had no clue what i was doing. One thing i did try, was install CentOS 7 using the IPMI (which took forever as the virtual devices for me kept crashing the whole IPMI) I managed to get into the GUI installation of CentOS 7 on IPMI, but since I dont have much knowledge in installing the OS, I kinda didnt know what to do. The first issue is Advance-2 has 4TB X 2 HDD selection which is what I have, and you can customise the RAID's before installling. In the GUI installation I could only see 1 drive showing up, the whole installation was messed up, and when i installed it, it didnt even boot off the hard drive I installed it on. Instead it went back to the GUI installation screen. OVH is a mess, I really hope they fix it because this is going to cause so much more hassle in the future with server installs. Unless someone can give me a guide? on how to install it with raid 0? which is what im looking for Regards Naytrix
Exactly the same for me, I prefer more speed/space than having semi redundancy thru raid 1. We cannot do this with bringyourownimage.
