Managing software updates can be difficult which is the case for Microsoft's Windows 10 May 2019 update. Microsoft is blocking their Win 10 May 2019 update if your system uses external USB storage devices or SD cards Microsoft blocks Windows 10 May 2019 Update on PCs that use USB storage or SD cards | ZDNet

Nothing wrong with Windows as desktop.
Apart from the fact that updates are pushing to fast with the default settings.
For example you can't use the LTS edition as home user.

(This solves the problem immediately, because a user is not a guinea pig by default, but wants to work as efficiently as possible.)

Also you can't disable all the telemetry options on the paid customers products.
GDPR requires opt-in so they do not meet this requirement.
As me as, EU citizen (Where GDPR is guiding and binding). This is worthless.

Even if you turn off all telemetry options.
Your computer continuously connects to all kinds of telemetry servers.

I would say try it out once and monitor it. You will be scared of the numbers of telemetry connections. It looks almost like a disco.
The only option to block the full telemetry stack, is with an external firewall.

    Not using Windows over here.
Blocking Microsoft update servers at mum and dad.
Not going to pay 100 bucks and more to just block updates.

Simple dedi firewall < 40$ does the job.

Blocking update servers are a peripheral case.
It is primarily to keep the bad domains outside.

Yeah I wouldn't pay either. I have a few spare Windows 8.1 Pro licenses which are free to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro :D

You can get Win Pro licenses on ebay for $5, 100% legit. I've bought several licenses that way. Actually, it's easier to get win 10 pro licenses than it is to get home edition on ebay.

I sell re-built computers when I get donated parts from someone (usually a person getting rid of their computers). I've done this every time, never had a problem over the 10+ computers I've built and sold. If you do buy one on ebay, just make sure the seller is legit because there are scammers out there. Look for a person who has a lot of sales.

Yeah seen them on ebay though haven't tried. The above article linked to How to upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Pro for free | ZDNet which reminded me Windows 7 Pro, Windows 7 Ultimate, or Windows 8/8.1 Pro licenses are eligible for free upgrades to Windows 10 Pro. I used to dabble in PC hardware too including beta testing hardware so I have a few Windows 7/8/8.1 Pro licenses still from back in the day :)

So folks if you have an old Windows 7 Pro, Windows 7 Ultimate, or Windows 8/8.1 Pro licenses lying around, you can use it to upgrade your system from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro :)

I just sold 2 server cases this weekend and the guy who purchased them said about the Win 7 free upgrade. I never knew about that, of course, I don't use windows.

Yeah I did know about it way back but forgot about it once I started using laptops instead of desktop PCs as I only ever installed Windows myself when I was building desktop PCs myself.
