Memcached Memcached Server 1.4.26 Released

    Raw key-value store performance-wise Redis/Memcache are much the same when you compare operation to operation that memcache supports. Redis just supports a lot more types of operations, and rigorously defines their Big O performance characteristics.

    I use redis for the richer command set, as it allows me to-do more advanced stuff.

    For example; GitHub - Xon/XenForo-UserActivity: Displays user activity per content (my version of user activity for a thread) uses Redis sorted sets to add recent users uniquely to a list of users for a thread.

    It doesn't do read-thread tracking, but is a vastly higher performance version for 'currently viewing a thread', as it scales by the number of people viewing a thread and not the total number of people online.
