The issue is solved on the bug tracker at MariaDB but for the next version at 29/01/2021....

Not sure if any fix is needed on the php side also .....

Looks like they did mark it fixed [MDEV-24121] Recent MariaDB update appears to have introduced a DB connection issue for PHP < 7.3 (or anything using PDO) - Jira in next versions being 10.2.36, 10.3.27, 10.4.17, 10.5.8. Probably they're relaxing the stricter packet validation again? Either way my backported PHP mysqlnd fixes will bring PHP 5.6.40, 7.0.33, 7.1.33, 7.2.x inline with mysqlnd code in 7.3/7.4/8.0 for this specific issue.

However, if you do need to downgrade MariaDB MySQL, you may want to match galera versions with their MariaDB counterparts too
    Code (Text):
    yum downgrade MariaDB-client MariaDB-common MariaDB-compat MariaDB-devel MariaDB-server MariaDB-shared galera

Centmin Mod 123.09beta01 doesn't have a MariaDB 10.5 upgrade support via centmin.sh menu option 11 as yet due to more testing needed. See changes to 10.5 at MariaDB - What's New In MariaDB 10.5 ?

Technically, it isn't MariaDB they're just fix packet validation which was too relaxed before. Real fix should be in all MySQL clients that connect to MySQL i.e. PHP etc. Though MariaDB should really give the community a heads up about the change and maybe add it as a an option to enable or disable strict packet validation so folks can test and fix up their MySQL clients like PHP.

I think that MariaDB silently released the new versions like 10.2.36 , 10.3.27 that includes that fix :)

Probably no as that won't trigger yum update for folks to update. But who knows

Yeah good to see progress though there's a separate security issue which mainly impacts shared hosting MariaDB users like cPanel MariaDB - MyiSAM/Aria Temporary Files Arbitrary File Delete Vulnerability | Web Hosting Talk
