Hmm I've never updated MariaDB on CMM...

    I ran:
    # yum clean all
    then
    # yum update
but I get: "No packages marked for update"

mysql -v returns "10.0.28-MariaDB MariaDB Server"

Should I just use centmin.sh menu option 11 sub-menu 5 after backing up databases?

You seem to be on Centmin Mod 123.08stable which has MariaDB 10.0.x branch. So this version doesn't apply to you as only Centmin Mod 123.09beta01 defaults to MariaDB 10.1.x branch. You're next version is MariaDB 10.0.29 not 10.1.20.

did you upgrade from 123.08stable ?

If you did then you would still be on 123.08stable's MariaDB 10.0 branch unless you manually backup all mysql databases on server and then upgrade major branch to MariaDB 10.1 via centmin.sh menu option 11 submenu option 5

centmin.sh menu option 11 is for major branch updates only i.e. MariaDB 5.5 to 10.0 or 10.0 to 10.1 or 10.1 to 10.2. For minor version updates YUM package manager is used.

Working fine for me so far in a 3 node Mariadb galera cluster, hopeful it'll fix some sporadic crash issues we've been having since upgrading from 10.1.14

    Good to know :)

@RB1 you ran into mariadb 10.1 bug fixed in 123.09beta01 specifically for 10.1.x branch Beta Branch - set MariaDB 10.1 ProtectHome=false for CentOS 7 systemd in 123.09beta01 | Centmin Mod Community

it's only fixed when mariadb 10.1 detected and a fresh centmin.sh run and exit is made

    Code (Text):
    2016-12-17 4:06:40 139653703325952 [ERROR] mysqld: Can't create/write to file '/home/mysqltmp/ibfvVPMG' (Errcode: 13 "Permission denied")
2016-12-17 4:06:40 139653703325952 [ERROR] Plugin 'InnoDB' init function returned error.
2016-12-17 4:06:40 139653703325952 [ERROR] Plugin 'InnoDB' registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed.
    2016-12-17 4:06:40 139653703325952 [ERROR] Unknown/unsupported storage engine: InnoDB
    2016-12-17 4:06:40 139653703325952 [ERROR] Aborting

try running centmin.sh and exiting and then restart mysql server
    Code (Text):
    mysqlrestart

Then as per faq item 19 for centos 7 mariadb mysql server check error log via command below to see - might need to post to pastebin or gist and mask any server hostnames if needed
    Code (Text):
    journalctl -u mariadb --no-pager

it will be auto fixed on next centmin.sh run after update but I just updated 123.09beta01 to add the fix during (not after) mariadb 10.0 to 10.1 upgrades via centmin.sh menu option 11 submenu option 5.
If you can restart mysql server it usually means it's fixed and can confirm by checking /etc/systemd/system/mariadb.service.d/protecthome.conf file exists and it has the following contents
    Code (Text):
    [Service]
    ProtectHome=false
