SparkPost is already courting mad Mandrill users posting on Twitter. Since the email was sent out only yesterday, I'm assuming that this is just the start of people complaining.

indeed.. i am happy with Amazon SES myself since I also use it for sendy.co official Centmin Mod newsletter coming soon eventually :D

But sendy.co can use other smtp providers too so good to see what alternative smtp providers are out there - Authmailer is another i'd try it's also backed on Amazon SES but has their own layer of software and analytics on top AFAIK :)

That SparkPost pricing is nice. They are probably getting tons of new members.

Yeah was just thinking though, if you need 100,001 emails then it will still cost $44.99/month = 0.449 per 1K emails :)

Up to 100K is going to be good for a lot of sites out there. How does that 101K $44.99 price stack up with the other services prices. I wonder if there is going to be an email pricing war???

You can see the prices I posted at Email - Mandrill users will be required to have a paid monthly MailChimp account | Centmin Mod Community to compare and from best pricing it seems
    • Sparkpost = 100k free but 100,001 emails = $44.99/month heh
    • Amazon SES = 100K $10/month and 100,001 emails = $10.10 if $0.10 per 1000 emails
    • Sendgrid = Lite plan is 100K $10/month and 100,001 emails = $10.10 at $0.10 per 1000 emails. Sendgrid Essentials plan is 100K $19.95/month and 100,001 emails = $0.00075 per email overages so $19.95075 heh
    • Authmailer = 100K $12.49/month or $149.90/yr and 100,001 emails = +10/month per 100k overages so US$22.49/month
    • Elasticemail = 25K free, $0.19 per 1000 for 1st 1 million = $190 so first 100K = 75 x0.19 = $14.25 and 100,001 is $0.19 per 1000 overage so 14.25 + 0.19 = $14.44/month
    • Pepipost = 100K $20 but they only charge for emails opened ! and 100,001 is $1 per 5,000 so $21
    • Mailgun = 100K $45 and 100,001 would be still $45 according to their calculator

Read somewhere Sparkpost's 100K free per month has a 10k per day email send limit, so you'd need to take 10 days to send 100K emails out at once ?

I wouldn't doubt that - prevents a spammer from signing up and sending 100K at once. Maybe that limit only applies to people who didn't verify their domains? If you find where they said that, let me know - I would be curious to read that.

I think a lot of people are scrambling to find a new provider. Some people are doing research (like this thread) and other are just going with a recommendation from a friend. I'm sure a lot of the top tier companies in the space are going to gain some new customers.

SendGrid looked nice too. Since I use MailGun for Jamroom, I think I might go with SparkPost for IPB and stick with MailGun for Jamroom.

FYI, You get 50k free emails instead of 10k free with Mailgun if you sign up via your Rackspace.com account Rackspace - Mailgun and 100K $25 and 1m $407.50
