    Another update:

    Code:
    [18:44][[email protected] ~]# nginx -t
    Error Opening file /usr/share/GeoIP/GeoIPCity.dat
nginx: [emerg] GeoIP_open("/usr/share/GeoIP/GeoIPCity.dat") failed in /usr/local/nginx/conf/geoip.conf:5
nginx: configuration file /usr/local/nginx/conf/nginx.conf test failed

It was a clean centmin install. How can I fix the error above? and why is it there in the first place?

George, your input would be appreciated.

You'll need to post on the forums with the following info
    • Server or VPS details ? XEN, KVM, OpenVZ, VMWare or dedicated server ? OS ? CentOS 6.9 or 7.4 ? 32bit or 64bit ?
    • What version of Centmin Mod ? .07 stable or 08 stable or .09 beta01 or another branch version ?
    • Was it fresh install or upgrade ?
    • Method of install ? Via centmin.sh menu option 1, Git install or curl one liner install as outlined at centminmod.com/download.html ?
    • How long ago did you install Centmin Mod ?
    • There's numerous code changes, bug fixes over time, so ensure you have latest Centmin Mod code installed by upgrading your Centmin Mod code as instructed below.

    Troubleshooting Initial Install

To troubleshoot initial installation, you need to check the initial install log at /root/centminlogs and instructions under Sharing logs and errors heading for using Pastebin.com or Gists to share a sanitised version of the contents of the initial install log. You can see full details at How to troubleshoot Centmin Mod initial install issues

Example for 123.09beta01 and newer list /root/centminlogs files in date ascending order and grep for installer_*
    Code (Text):
ls -lahrt /root/centminlogs | grep installer_*

example output returns install log at /root/centminlogs both a the full log and minimal log (smaller in size with some stuff filtered out)
    Code (Text):
ls -lahrt /root/centminlogs | grep installer_*
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4.3M Jul 12 09:06 installer_120718-083445.log
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 826K Jul 12 10:20 installer_120718-083445_minimal.log

Example for 123.08stable list /root/centminlogs files in date ascending order and grep for install.log
    Code (Text):
    ls -lahrt /root/centminlogs | grep install.log

example output returns install log at /root/centminlogs/centminmod_1.2.3-eva2000.09.001_111016-112321_install.log
    Code (Text):
    ls -lahrt /root/centminlogs | grep install.log
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2.2M Oct 11 01:40 centminmod_1.2.3-eva2000.09.001_111016-112321_install.log

in SSH use cat to ouput contents of /root/centminlogs/centminmod_1.2.3-eva2000.09.001_111016-112321_install.log. Clear your SSH client window/buffer so only output is the contents of the file

    for 123.08stable
    Code (Text):
    cat /root/centminlogs/centminmod_1.2.3-eva2000.09.001_111016-112321_install.log

    for 123.09beta01 and newer
    Code (Text):
    cat /root/centminlogs/installer_120718-083445_minimal.log

Then copy and paste into Pastebin.com or Gists entry. If your SSH window scroll buffer isn't that large to get the whole contents of the install log, you can download file manually and copy and paste contents. But makes sure it's sanitised version of the contents of the initial install log as outlined at How to troubleshoot Centmin Mod initial install issues

    Hey George,

Sorry for not formatting my post correctly.

It was a linode kvm VPS.
Linode 2GB ram 1 core fresh install of centminmod .09 beta via stackscripts (centos 7 64bit), installed today.

    Here is the install log:

    what's output for these commands
    Code (Text):
    ls -lah /usr/share/GeoIP

    Code (Text):
    yum list GeoIP

    Code (Text):
    rpm -qa GeoIP

Probably best to retry fresh CentOS 7 reload and fresh 123.09beta01 install and see if it works

You mean just do a manual centos install and then centmin install?

What's a point of using stackscripts then?

no i meant rebuild linode vps with stackscript again as I did do an update to 123.09beta01 for legacy GeoIP database downloads will have been removed as at Jan 2, 2019 Beta Branch - prep work for GeoIP2 Lite nginx module support 123.09beta01

the update Beta Branch - update local version maxmind GeoIP legacy database in 123.09beta01

indeed your install is missing one legacy GeoIP database in /usr/share/GeoIP as the download url is gone, you can try just downloading that instead of fresh stackscript install
    Code (Text):
    cd /usr/share/GeoIP
    wget https://centminmod.com/centminmodparts/geoip-legacy/GeoLiteCity.gz -O /usr/share/GeoIP/GeoLiteCity.dat.gz
    gzip -d -f /usr/share/GeoIP/GeoLiteCity.dat.gz
    cp -a /usr/share/GeoIP/GeoLiteCity.dat /usr/share/GeoIP/GeoIPCity.dat
    ngxrestart

if that works, i'd edit your above post to remove the install log from public viewing if you hadn't santized any sensitive info. Hence, suggestion to reload CentOS 7 OS and rebuild via stackscript again so you get a fresh 123.09beta01 install with fresh passwords generated for various stuff to void any leaked sensitive info in install log

I'm having the same problem actually on a fresh linode install using the Beta php7.2 installer.

Thanks George. Will reinstall via stackscript first thing tomorrow morning. Will update you with the results.

    Update:
Instructions above worked like a charm. I have just added a missing geoip file and nginx restarted just fine.

I don't think I have any sensitive data in that log. I removed all passwords hostnames and IPs before posting. What else can be sensitive there?

So, I guess I'll just keep it as is for now.
