Looks like Linode Block Storage is out of beta now Linode Blog » Announcing Linode Block Storage Volumes. I tested Linode Block Storage when it was in beta here.

Edit: April 2020 looks like Linode has capped and lowered Block storage performance Linode - Linode Block Storage Public Release

    Nice.
Although it is 5 times more expensive than Spaces of Digitalocean if you calculate the bare price per GiB only.
There is no extra usage fee, no minimal compulsory purchase in GiB's.
In short, at the end of the ride, the best choice.
    If you ask me.

Not going to happen.......... I think so.

For me it is ideal. Cheap Backup solution.
Server in London with storage block in Frankfurt and visa versa :)
    Eta Q2 2018.

    Jep. Up to.
    Hihi. Very business-related-marketing Twitter message.
Most likely, frequently asked files are written in the NVMe.
    All the rest HDD.

So do not expect a big improvement for the live system over the beta.
Its fine to me. Don't need fast disks for back-up and test stuff.

Looks like Linode Fremont, Dallas and Newark now have block storage. But there's no plans for Linode Atlanta datacenter to support block storage apparently !

When will block storage be available in Alanta? | Linode Questions

So using this this to serve forum media files is probably a bad idea right? I was thinking, if a server goes down it would be nice to be able to mount this to a new server quickly and not have to worry about moving files around in a snap.

The storage isn't SSD (to my knowledge) so I don't think you'll get "the best" performance.

"Linode Block Storage is powered by a combination of large capacity HDDs and ultra-fast NVMe drives, offering a balance between price, performance, and capacity."
Low level content. You could use it for example: media older than ... year or...
    Theoretically yes.
The problem is that the block storage is at the same location as the VPS server.
    For example London.
If the failure affects both it could be possible that both block storage and VPS server are not available.

I haven't tested their production block storage performance combination of hdd + NVMe drives. But their beta which used different storage was much slower than their local native SSD storage with their VPS Linode - Linode Block Storage - Early Access. Probably get around to testin g the production Linode block storage.

But yes the block storage needs to be in same datacenter location as your Linode VPS so in Fremont, Dallas or Newark right now.

Looks like Linode updated their Block storage performance to restrict it and put a lower cap on performance for stability - so it's lowered from 5,000 IOPs to 1,500 IOPs if you I/O request burst is less than 60 seconds. If more than 60 seconds it will be lowered to 500 IOPs. So if you want better performance, use native disk storage of Linode VPS and not Block storage Does a Dedicated CPU or High Memory plan improve disk I/O performance? | Linode Questions

Got further clarification of the lower limits when your I/O burst duration is longer than 60 seconds via Twitter https://twitter.com/linode/status/1252693011449950210
