Install Nginx nginx bad bot blocker never got updated! Check your install!

Yesterday I installed another server with the famous blocker that most of us use.

Saw, there was a commit made by Mitchell Krogg several hours earlier.

Fine, improvement never hurts, so continue.

But after a while I noticed that the default install is not updating. It sends an email, updated and so, but there is a trick you must change and or check.

In the /usr/bin/sbin/update-ngxblocker

change this part

CONF_DIR=/usr/local/nginx/conf/ultimate-badbot-blocker/conf.d
#BOTS_DIR=/etc/nginx/bots.d
BOTS_DIR=/usr/local/nginx/conf/ultimate-badbot-blocker/bots.d

If you don't change it the updater will create a directory in the unchanged part /etc/nginx/bots.d

 

Well, I do a lot together with Mitchel and created an in between setup that worked better that the guide https://github.com/centminmod/centminmod-ultimate-bad-bot-blocker.

I used parts of it, and the original of Mitchel. And using both gives the perfect, no hassle with setup;
