I love Intel, there's rumour that they'll be making an Intel Xeon E5-2602v4 (Broadwell-EP) processor clocked at 5.1Ghz Intel Rumored To Launch 5.1 GHz Xeon E5-2602 V4 Processor Under Broadwell-EP Lineup - Features 165W TDP

Intel’s 5.1 GHz Clocked Xeon Processor Rumored To Launch Under E5-2600 V4 Family
The rumor comes from several Chinese sources who are stating that Intel is preparing to launch within their E5-2600 V4 Xeon family, a quad core processor which is going to be specially designed for certain workloads. The Xeon chip which is known by the model number, Xeon E5-2602 V4, will be a quad core chip with a multi-thread design. However, unlike any other Xeon or consumer chip, this one would come with a default clock speed of 5.1 GHz which is an insane frequency for Xeon processors. The chip will feature 10 MB L3 cache since each core comes with 2.5 MB of shared cache and the whole package is supposed to operate with a TDP of 165W.

Looks like Intel Broadwell-EP E5-2600v4 family is coming !

Now this specific SKU is still a rumor but we know for certain that Intel is launching their Broadwell-EP Xeon E5 2600 V4 processors this quarter and will consist of several chips that include the 22 core Xeon E5-2699 V4 and later, we will get to see a 24 core Xeon model under the Xeon E7 lineup that arrives in Q2 2016.

We have been spoiled. Since the introduction of the Xeon "Nehalem" 5500 (Xeon 5500, March 2009), Intel has been increasing the core counts of their Xeon CPUs by nearly 50% almost every 18 months. We went from four to six (Xeon 5600) on June 2010. Sandy Bridge (Xeon E5-2600, March 2012) increased the core count to 8. That is only 33% more cores, but each core was substantially faster than the previous generation. Ivy Bridge EP (Xeon E5-2600 v2, launched September 2013) increased the core count from 8 to 12, theHaswell-EP (Xeon E5-2600 v3, sept 2014) surprised with an 18-core flagship SKU.

However it could not go on forever. Sooner or later Intel would need to slow down a bit on adding cores, for both power and space reasons, and today Intel has finally pumped the brakes a bit.

Launching today is the latest generation of Intel's Xeon E5 processors, the Xeon E5 v4 series.Fifteen months after Intel's Broadwell architecture and 14nm process first reached consumers, Broadwell has finally reached the multi-socket server space with Broadwell-EP. Like past EP cores, Broadwell-EP is the bigger, badder sibling of the consumer Broadwell parts, offering more cores, more memory bandwidth, more cache, and more server-focused features. And thanks to the jump from their 22nm process to their current-generation 14nm process, Intel gets to reap the benefits of a smaller, denser process.

Given the $4000 Retail price tag of the E5-2699-v4 with 22 cores, it sounds unlikely that hosting companies will chose it.

$239 for 16 Cores ( E5-2620v4 ) is $12 / core @ 2.1 GHz base clock and 2.3GHz All core turbo. For easily parallel workloads it does not sounds that interesting. Its nice to see new options.

Here is a nice link with all core turbo speeds which Intel's ARK pages are missing since they only have max turbo clock speed (1 core often).
