With AMD Ryzen launch coming, it has forced Intel to slash it's desktop cpu prices. Competition is a wonderful thing http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/intel-cpu-prices-drop-ryzen-launch/. Great news for dedicated server's offering Intel Core i7 4790K, 6700K, 7700K based processors like OVH :)

    10 cores! wow

i just bought my desktop last year, and now they have 10 cores,

i have a 6 core, it's pretty good, i love it, i have a lot of applications running on it all the time

it's only been maxed out once.. when i was rendering a video, my ram was a max and it slowed completely down, it was horrible, i can't remember if my processors were maxed out as well, i think it might of been just my ram

i have 16 gb is ram, i thought it was going to be enough, it's not!

its always running at around 12gb of ram, it really annoying! it seems like firefox and chrome always need lots of ram and throughout the year it needs more and more

im looking to buy another 16gb, but its 160usd, too much!! i can't afford that, i hope ddr4 goes down in price this summer,
    CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200) Memory Kit Model CMK16GX4M2A2400C14 - Newegg.ca

i need more ram, i am using multi monitor as well, and running linux

i think i should be fine with my 6 cores for a good ten years, i can't remember the max ram i can use, i think its 128 or 164 on the motherboard,

even with this fast computer i find my internet too slow,,, 40 mps

i wonder how much ram we will need in 50 years

Yeah i extensively use virtualbox virtualisation for local laptop Samung ATIV Boook 8 with Intel Core i7 3635QM 4 cpu / 8 threads and 16GB ram and 960GB Crucial M500 SSD. So looking at more cpu cores the better as that means I can spin up more local guest virtualised server instances simultaneously for testing i.e. with 16 cpu threads, can spin up 3x 4 cpu instances concurrently :)

I am hoping AMD Ryzen/Naples shines for virtualized work loads too.

nope ram prices will continue to skyrocket in price so buy now https://community.centminmod.com/th...may-rise-due-to-memory-price-increases.10361/ ! ;)

I use oracle virtual box as well to run windows, mostly for skype. skype doesn't work well on linux. Everything else i have found alternatives on linux, which are much better.

It's the VM that takes up too much ram, But i love linux since i've started using it, and the best way to learn it for me, is to use it as a primary operating system, i won't go back to windows, my goal is to someday become a linux expert

indeed that's why my Samsung ATIV Book 8 laptop has 16GB of memory and 960GB Crucial M500 SSD for virtualbox usage - ~480GB disk space is used by virtualbox and my snapshots :)

turns out i don't need anymore ram,

i switched to linux mint from ubuntu and i haven't had any ram problems,

turns out ubuntu eats up too much ram!!

im always at around 8gb of ram now, linux mint is much better!!
