Backing up a VPS

    I have a 600Gb SSD VPS with 100GB of external storage for backup purposes
    I need a step by step guide of what and how to backup my websites.
    I'm assuming I'd need the database and the public files included, but would I need to cover anything else?
    Given the space I have what would you include, how long and how would you overwrite at xx days?
    I'm assuming all this can be scripted with a cron, but what would that entail?

    The Centmin Mod to Centmin Mod data migration/server move how to guide gives a good run down of what you want to backup as well as what you may want to back up Centmin Mod Site Data Migration Guide

    Yes you'd need to script it yourself and run via cronjobs. The linked data migration guide's manual commands are also examples of what you could script too.

    For backup scripts in general, there's a few threads on the forums and linked resources which maybe worth reading:

    That might be the case, but don't ever depend on your host to provide you backups. You never know what might happen.

    In any case, always have a Plan "B", and "C". I push my SQL/Code files to Amazon S3 daily.. just in case.

    See my thread from 2 days ago about a VPS that had disk failure. The backup job was also bad and I had to restore to a 6 day old backup, then luckily I keep my own backups in SQL and I was able to restore without much lost content.
