Nginx Failed nginx 1.15.2 upgrade - download tar.gz broken

    Hey George, I'm facing a similar issue where updating nginx from 1.13.12 doesn't work. I've tried both 1.14.0 and 1.15.2. I've also tried running `cmupdate` and then option 4.

    `axel https://nginx.org/download/nginx-1.15.2.tar.gz` and then `echo $?` gives me 0.

    What are some of the things I should be checking for to find the cause?

    To troubleshoot, you need to check the full nginx upgrade log at /root/centminlogs and instructions under Sharing logs and errors heading for using Pastebin.com or Gists to share a sanitised version of the contents of the nginx_upgrade.log log. You can see full details at How to troubleshoot Centmin Mod initial install issues

    also what's output of

    when you run centmin.sh menu option 4 there's a nginx upgrade log timestamped at /root/centminlogs

    if you type this command it lists all logs in date ascending order so latest log at bottom

    ls -lArt /root/centminlogs

    so copy the entire contents of latest nginx_upgrade log to gist.github.com or pastebin.com

    you can use grep to filter the logs, i.e. look for nginx_upgrade in log name

    So the last nginx upgrade log was named centminmod_1.2.3-eva2000.09.001_111016-220515_nginx_upgrade.log and located at /root/centminlogs/centminmod_1.2.3-eva2000.09.001_111016-220515_nginx_upgrade.log

    then use cat command to output the contents of that log

    clear your ssh window buffer/screen and type

    cat /root/centminlogs/centminmod_1.2.3-eva2000.09.001_111016-220515_nginx_upgrade.log

    then select and copy and paste output to pastebin.com or gist.github.com file to share. If your SSH client's scroll buffer isn't large enough using cat might not output the entire log file contents, so you may need to download the log and use local text editor to open and copy and paste.

    so only need content of one specific log, in this case most recent nginx_upgrade.log log

    from your gist nginx upgrade log seems it has been a long time since you updated centmin mod 123.09beta01 given the git change stats on nginx upgrade failure :)

    not entirely related but when was last time you did yum updates too for kernel updates which require server reboot ?

    i see some tarball downloads didn't download properly or got corrupted on download

    Haha yes guilty, Centminmod is very stable for me so I haven't SSH in for long time.

    This one is a OVZ, so I probably won't be able to upgrade the kernel. I'll definitely do that for my KVMs though, thanks!

    Removed those files in svr-setup and re-ran option 4 but am getting these errors now

    Usually nginx upgrade routine will automatically download those tar.gz files if they do not exist. What was missing is checking to see if those tar.gz files are valid and not corrupted or partially downloaded files. So i just updated 123.09beta01 code with some additional tar.gz download file validity checks. You can try updating 123.09beta01 code via cmupdate command i.e.

    post the latest nginx_upgrade log as per Nginx - Can`t upgrade to nginx 1.15.2

    latest would be in /root/centminlogs directory and would be the very last nginx_upgrade log listed from this command

    strange try just manually deleting the 2 files so they get redownloaded on next centmin.sh menu option 4 run

    edit: also remove /svr-setup/ngx_brotli/ as seems your version is broken

    Followed that instructions, made sure that the directory doesn't contain the 2 files before the run, same thing happens.

    The 2 files doesn't appear after nginx update too. Sent you the latest logs as well :)

    The updated code checks if the tar.gz is valid and if not, deletes invalid tar.gz and then redownloads it again. So only time this routine would end up having issues for your problem would be when, the re-downloaded tar.gz are also corrupt and invalid. Those 2 downloads are downloaded as .tar.gz files from Github.com repos and Github doesn't seem to have any issues according to GitHub Status (@githubstatus) | Twitter.

    Try again as your nginx_upgrade shows ngx_brotli compile still broken, while my latest update had fixed that too

    Ran those commands, similar thing happens, but I think the section of logs for NginxMake looks different this time? Sent the latest log over

    ngx_brotli installed properly this time and i added /root/centminlogs listing at end of failed runs so you can know which logs to look into for troubleshooting.

    But yes those 2 .tar.gz still fail or report corrupted - could be something with your server's connection to download source at github

    what is output for these 4 commands for manual download of those files

    strange now that you manually downloaded them what is output for tar tests

    If they're valid tarballs they will output the contents of the tar.gz files

    If they do output the contents, then try re-run centmin.sh menu option 4

    seems there is progress set-misc and redis2-nginx module tar.gz don't complain of invalid download files now so manual download fixed that

    just running into problem
