Im currently on Linodes $10 plan and Im just running 10 small websites that get around 100-500 visitis each per month. After reading around I´ve seen many talk about Vultr and SSD Nodes. My question is how do I decide if I should move?

I saw that SSD Nodes only have server in Dallas, but almost all my websites are within europe. Does CDN solve that? Is the high RAM from SSD Nodes more important than the better CPU from Vultr or better backup from Linode? ( How do I weight all the important factors)

Yeah Vultr is a good contender if geographic location is important and Vultr now guarantees faster cpus on $10+ plans Vultr - Vultr guarantee Intel Xeon Skylake on $10+ Plans.

Linode has Longview metrics System Metrics Insights with Longview - Linode if you set them up you can see how much server resources you using right now so that would be important to deciding on what spec VPS you choose - particularly disk space will be important especially if you intend to do local server backups too. i.e. 10x sites each 500MB in size would be 5GB for each set of backups done locally. If you plan on 7 day rotation of backups, that would be 5x7 = 35GB of disk space alone for local backups.

Awesome, thanks for that explanation! Besides the monitoring with Linode, which could also be done with for example NewRelic, is there any other reason to stay on Linode, or is Vultr the one to go to if I prioritize speed and performance? Or does server location matter if I use cloudflare? If not, would SSD Nodes be a better choice?

For me Linode storage/data transfer/backup/snapshot speed is what keeps me where I am as it's the fastest out of all the VPS/cloud providers I have tested. Location still matters even with cloudflare if you need every bit of speed possible. Last month i moved centminmod.com domain over to Cloudflare and webpagetest.org still shows faster times when testing geographic region closest to your origin server though it should speed up all geographic regions relatively too but you'll always get fastest times closest to your geographic origin server.

I also use Linode (London and Frankfurt) and it always worked fine for me and my needs. In the last 3 months I bought a Hetzner VPS and I'm running a forum on it. I'm glad with the results and I'm planning to move all my websites to Hetzner. It costs half than Linode.
If I remember correctly @eva2000 did a test on hetzner vps

Hetzner VPS looks good, does anyone else have any feedback on them?

Some folks on LET forums reporting Hetzner degraded performance over time though that's probably due to more vps clients populating the vps host nodes over time. But guess that depends on the vps host node. But if geographical location requirements are factored in, the best choice for you might not be best for others

Looks like I might be moving to ssdnodes. Can you pass up that kind of pricing, not seeing a bill for 3 years?

    Love the never ending countdown!

Thanks for the other thread. I searched for ssdnodes but didn't see the sale thread.

yeah it's an on going sale - probably due to the operating costs for ssdnodes - they use Incero.com for their servers and Incero offers deep discounts for 1-3 yr prepayment. So makes sense ssdnodes try to get in sync cash flow wise.

I wouldn't use any hosting that is offering little to no cost for 3 years. Isn't a sustainable business model for your websites. I have used Linode for 5+ years now, and keep getting free extras from them... so super happy. They also have the industries fastest, based on independent tests across their true competitors, bang for buck, throughput performance. Their UI is outdated... but still one with the best features as a result.

Don't choose a VPS provider solely on price. You will just endup disappointed. Digital Ocean and Linode are probably the two best... Linode just outperforms DO in tests.

Linode nanode plan isnt worth it... If you want to go/stay with linode go with $10+ plans as you are right now. DO is just falling with performance and Vultr,Linode, DO has the same stability ... Vultr has better performance but its behind in terms of storage/data transfer/backup/snapshot speed as linode is faster. I'm currently with UpCloud and Im super happy! I think that they are planing to change UI but not soon.

standard droplets yes, but their high cpu droplets seem to be much better but at a higher price
