I'm trying to pick out a server for my site (xenforo, ~400 online peak hours) and am weighing the Rise-1 with a "2TB HDD Raid" and the "450GB NVMe Raid".

I'd really like the extra space, but we could live with 450GB. Is the speed increase worth being a little cramped?

NVMe > SSD > HDD. Get the fastest you can afford for your disk space usage requirements.

But not all NVMe and SSD model/brands are created equal so there could be huge variations in performance. You could have some SSD brand/models (enterprise lines) faster than some lower end consumer NVMe too. Just look at the different NVMe modes used by OVH and the rated specs I posted at OVH - OVH NVMe Users Post Your NVMe Model

To compare high end enterprise HDD and SAS non-SSD random writes would range between 150 to 250 IOPs

I had no idea they were so much faster, thank you!
