So I have been using CMM for a while now to manage a few blogs. However, I am running into an issue where if i made changes to the live site then it would sometimes crash and cause me a lot of stress.... So now I am looking to make a local staging server or something that can push my changes to the live site. I currently have a localhost VM with centminmod, but am not quite sure how to get it pushed onto my VPS.

How are you guys dealing with a staging before pushing to production?

If it's something related to the website, I'd just set up a test site on the same server under a different domain and test things before pushing the updates to my live site.

I have enough storage to handle it, so it works for me.

Depends on how far you want to go.

If you mean content management on a few blogs; posting new content etc.
You can use a WordPress Backup Plugin.

For a small amount of money you can easily synchronize a backup with version management and online storage. To your local server, to your online server and vice versa.

There are free alternatives but the question is whether this is wise if the content is important.

When developing themes and plugins, the good old git is preferable.

But this is obviously very personal.

I have my main (production) sites hosted on my main server, and all my stage sites hosted on a cheaper vps.

so my main site will be abc.com, and stage will be stage.abc.com.
I do things the old fashion way, I tested the changes in stage sites, then I manually move them into the production site.

I personally do not use WordPress anymore.
Back in the days, a cronjob to zip, encode and transfer files.

And all the way back into the plugin era: BackWPup – WordPress Backup Plugin
