Some parts of the platform stack are so ubiquitous that that are almost transparent. Commercialized web servers were the first part of the Internet to make the jump from service providers to enterprises, and they made companies like Netscape, IBM, Microsoft, and Red Hat rich in those early days.

The open source Apache web server rose to prominence along with the open source and Linux software movements that coincided with the rise of Internet-style networking and computing, and for several decades the Apache web server has dominated the installed base. But the NGINX web serving and load balancing platform, which is also open source, has been making steady gains in recent years, and it looks like it won’t be too long before it surpasses Apache in the installed base.

moved to more appropriate forum and thanks @Jimmy for sharing :D

    Just a few notes:
    • Apache's relevance will still be quite large due to mod_rewrite .htaccess and not all folks are nginx rewrite gurus.
    • Also alot of Nginx servers are reverse proxies in front of Apache, so sort of skews the total numbers :)

I agree. Apache will be around for a long time. Though, I hate some developers who are "Apache only" people. I loved the IPB staff who wrote me back and said the "no one uses Nginx".

I think it's time software developers take Nginx seriously and support it more.

indeed same with sendy.co dev says he doesn't support Nginx officially !

Love Garret's explanation of what a web server is - trying to explain it to my family or offline friends who have no clue about LEMP stacks, linux etc is quite hard as none are in the field or have any interest in such heh. Even those that work in I.T. fields don't know much about Nginx lol. Well alot of Australian IT is Microsoft biased heh
