I have been using G Suite email hosting for my site's domain since it was first introduced all the way back in 2006 (!). It always seemed too good to be true, and now it looks like it is finally going away...

I really hate to lose this but it's hard to complain too much as I have certainly received a lot of value out of it over the past 16 years.

Are any other Centminmod users affected by this? Any recommendations? I'm looking at Zoho's $1/user/month option as the best solution right now. I only have a few email addresses that I need to maintain for my domain.

Why don't you just stay with G Suite (paid) anyway?
For a few e-mail addresses only, this should not be a problem.

Because I'm cheap. For four users, that's $24/month or $288/year, and we're not using any of the other G Suite features. I'd rather save that money and go somewhere else since I can move fairly easily.

    Cheapness can be expensive.
The great strength c.q. feature of G Suite is that almost no sent mail ends up in your recipient's spam box. Mail outside the big 3 (Microsoft, Google, Amazon) unfortunately, regularly ends up in the spam box. Mail nowadays is based on provider and ip reputation.

I regularly receive legitimate mail from people (Zoho customers) in my spam box.
It really doesn't make sense, but unfortunately that's how the technical world works these days.

Ah, that's an excellent point. I had not considered deliverability.

(On this subject, I've actually had email from employees at a Fortune 500 company — which uses Microsoft to host all of their emails — end up in my spam folder, too.)

Microsoft are the worst, hotmail, outlook emails, I had customers on my servers and all emails went to spam, all DKIM,DMARC,SPF correct, not on any blacklists anywhere, eventually I gave up filling in support emails/requests for them to look at it (Microsoft) as I worked out they just ignore everything

Exactly, and so you are gently pushed to use mail services or services in general of the big 3.
That is exactly what they want.

Mail is often blocked for no reason and they don't respond anyway.
Bullshit you don't want to do and, moreover, you don't have time for.

Being right and being right is really a big difference in mail-lala land.

I never thought of it like that - bet your right

Also had heaps of problems with email confirmation on some IPS forums I maintain - customers with hotmail, outlook and gmail - emails always end up in spam or not even delivered - and all email is set up correct

Yeah value wise be awesome on Google Suite legacy free edition. Got the email too. Alternatives have been discussed in the past at https://community.centminmod.com/threads/free-yourdomain-com-email-accounts-alternatives.280/ including a good deal for MXRoute which every year posts insane discount deals https://community.centminmod.com/th...l-accounts-alternatives.280/page-6#post-86990. They post their yearly Black Friday deals at https://mxroute.blackfriday/

I got this Black Friday 2020 deal previously for some less important domain's @mydomain email usage. They're so 'less' important, that I actually forgot about them altogether LOL
MXRoute also have their own forums at https://community.mxroute.com/

For me probably the important domains will have to stick with Google Workspaces as they're tied into a lot of services and service authentication and API services via Google Cloud/API etc. I only have 1 account of Google Suite legacy free editions as I heavily use domain and user aliases so that sameuser@domain1 and sameuser@domain2 go to same place as does sameuser and sameuseralias got to same accounts.

Going to be busy as I only have like 10 important domains while there's a couple hundred not so important on Google Suite legacy free edition. So they would need migrating to my MXRoute BF2020 deal plan :D

If you can you can change those 4 unique user accounts to a single user account and just use user aliases so username@domain and user2name@domain both go to same single account. That's what I do. But just remembered for Xenforo 2.x they have bounce and unsubscribe email account optional setups and I'll have to set those up as separate accounts so yeah I'd need at least 3 user accounts there! Arrrgh!

Hence, why I ban hotmail at least on this forums :D

True apart from email deliverability, there's also account security i.e. whether or not the email provider supports 2FA or more advanced security keys like Yubikey. I use Yubikey on my Google Suite accounts and other online accounts like Cloudflare How To Setup YubiKey 5 NFC Security Key For Cloudflare Account Logins - Centmin Mod Blog :)

Safe guarding your email accounts is often overlooked but it's a window to access all your services registered to that email account if the email account is compromised!

I just got the official notice about this from Google today, so it's happening.

The discount is something, at least.

At this point, I think I will just have to bite the bullet and pay up. I think I can get it down to just two accounts and manage the rest with aliases/forwarding.

I was thinking about this feature, but I'm not sure I understand how it works. You can use it and continue to use Google Workspace or any other mail provider? Wouldn't the MX records conflict?

Yeah I was thinking I have a lot of other parked domains around my domain variations etc. I could set those up on Zoho or my MXRoute just for unsubscribe and bounce email settings in Xenforo :)

Cloudflare Email forwarding I've only used it for domains which don't currently have MX records i.e. parked domains.

    See video from Cloudflare below

Added a MXRoute thread guide for folks https://community.centminmod.com/threads/using-mxroute-com-for-yourdomain-emails.22409/ :D

Also Cloudflare has a new blog post for the email forwarding service https://blog.cloudflare.com/migrating-to-cloudflare-email-routing/

wow 1000+ comment thread talking about this Google requiring all ‘G Suite legacy free edition’ users to start paying | Hacker News !

One user touched on something not discussed yet. Those emails linked to mobile app store purchases like Playstore etc!
Though the FAQ mentions you retain access to others
