Install ssh keys issue

    • CentOS Version: CentOS 7 64bit ?
    • Centmin Mod Version Installed: 123.08stable
    Hello, I back :)

    I installed my server with linode and I secured it with ssh keys and not permitting the root login and the password authentication in sshd file. and everything was working fine. once I installed centminmod It refused the ssh key as you see in the attached image then I log in the lish and allowed root login but the same problem. so how can you help me ?

    Is your ISP ip address the same one used to initial install centmin mod as the IP used to SSH in after centmin mod installed ?

    You need to change your SSH client authentication methods

    what do you have for these 3 settings areas ?

    putty-kex.png
    putty-hostkeys.png
    putty-ciphers.png

    and Putty uses ssh keys that are not OpenSSH server supported format see
    though if you could connect before centmin mod install, then it probably isn't that but the OpenSSH server authentication method your Putty SSH client is using isn't supported post centmin mod install as Centmin Mod 123.08stable might have some missing improvements compared to 123.09beta01 on SSH configuration support.

    Also try installing centmin mod first and then setting up ssh keys

    Do you get same problem if you install Centmin Mod 123.09beta01 ?

    I will try to install it first then configure the ssh keys... which version of centminmod do you suggest to use ?

    123.09beta01 is best has more fixes and improvements :)

    hello,

    now I installed the beta version that u recommended. Where can I add my public ssh key at /home/username(that will be used)/.ssh/authorized_keys ?? ?

    then chmod for .ssh 700 and authorized_keys 600 ???

    do you remember me @eva2000 , I joined here six months ago while I was beginner :). now more advanced but still have a lot of questions :)

    What are the common reasons that let the server refused the key of the user despite accepting the key and the same authorized_keys file of root. ?

    Incorrect ssh key pair generation/configuration basically. Pure-ftpd virtual ftp user isn't a full system user so you can't create a ssh key for that pure-ftpd virtual ftp user as well.

    I mean the user that I created and give it the wheel gp but btw the same usernames server and ftp.

    tried with different username from pure-ftpd virtual ftp user ?

    yes I created another user but not working. very strange. I installed it many timeeeees :S

    might want to list commands you're using to create and setup ssh keys

    1- Generate a pub key from puttyGEN.
    2- log in root
    3- adduser adham
    4- gpasswd -a wheel adham
    5-mkdir /home/adham/.ssh
    6-vi /home/adham/.ssh/authorized_keys
    7- paste the generated public key from PutyGEN
    8- :x the vi editor
    9- chmod 700 /home/adham/.ssh
    10- chmod 600 /home/adham/.ssh/authorized_keys
    11- systemctl reload sshd
    12-Open putty data user adham / auth private key from puttygen and server IP with port 22.

    SERVER REFUSED THE KEY!

    i don't use putty so not sure but in 2nd post above Install - ssh keys issue linked to that putty may not generate the right format for keys supported by OpenSSH ? maybe that has changed in newer putty ?
