Not working where? on command line like
    Code (Text):
    mysqladmin ver

    ?

Could be auto generated password has a character in it that needs /root/.my.cnf to wrap the password in single quotes?

Ah you sanitised the log but what was the old MariaDB MySQL root password set in the log next to the line
    Code (Text):
    MySQL root password: **************************

Just curious if the auto generated password had a character MySQL didn't like.

Yeah sounds like auto generated password had a character that MySQL maybe didn't like.

FYI, I removed the log zip as some passwords still revealed. Probably best to do a fresh reinstall of OS and Centmin Mod.

Checked the initial install log more and noticed a few MariaDB YUM repo error messages though MariaDB MySQL server itself was installed properly

But this one's weird, MariaDB 10.2 YUM packages attempted to install for MariaDB 10.3 repo?

well I tested 123.09beta01 fresh install and not getting the issue. It could be specific to your VPS server and it's location as something is funky with MariaDB 10.2 being installed instead of 10.3 so could be a MariaDB YUM mirror issue. I'd try on a different VPS host and see if you get the same issue.

You mean you didn't edit those, but they were blank by default ? inspect the full install log not the minimal log to be sure in /root/centminlogs there's 2 versions minimal and full logs
    Code (Text):

Interesting issue, could be related to openssl as that is what is used to generate those specific passwords and I noticed in your logs these lines related to openssl that I don't see in mine

what versions of openssl are installed on your problematic VPS?

what is output for these commands
    Code (Text):
    which openssl

    Code (Text):
    openssl version -a

    Code (Text):

for posting code or output from commands to keep the formatting, you might want to use CODE tags for code How to use forum BBCODE code tags :)

FYI, updated 123.09beta01 with the fix to ensure system /usr/bin/openssl is used for password generation. So try a fresh install
