I got an email from fortrabbit (Berlin) regarding a new product 'Universal Stack'

I have NO AFFILIATION with them it just caught my eye as the pricing is very competitive IMHO they are running it on AWS infrastructure and it seems like it may be useful for some of Centminmod users :)

    Features:
    • SSD Web storage
    • SSH & SFTP
    • Backups (stored encrypted in an off-shore location for 14 days)
    • Dedicated PHP RAM
    • Isolated, dedicated, reserved PHP processes via FPM
    • Git Each 'App' has a dedicated Git repo
    • Composer installs
    • Performance metrics
    • Decoupled MySQL
    • Automatic HTTPS
    Features: How it works

    Specs: Specs

Pricing: Light (hobby projects) €3 monthly per App
Basic (small productions) €6 monthly per App

I have not tried them yet (but will be at some point) it's also worth pointing out this would NOT be a suitable place to install Centminmod (that's not the purpose)

    Enjoy :)

It is and seems to be aimed at the wordpress / laravel / symphony etc the 'pro plans' are really expensive fortrabbit pricing | Professional' stack and it is essentially for 1 App = 1 Stack so may be handy for some.

It was the hobby and basic plans that caught my eye (we are in LEB territory here) but 1 GB / 256 MB MySQL / Automatic HTTPS / Metrics etc for the 6 EUR a month seems worth a punt it's an interesting spin on a traditional app/cloud type offering.

P.S Thanks for the move to the appropriate place.

I have used these types of managed hosting platforms. I don't think you can change anything in the stack. This means you cannot change the OS either. The hosting for PHP website I am using is also a managed platform. It has a custom stack that is build on Debian OS. You cannot change the OS or anything from the stack. As for patches and upgrades, the platform providers do that on their own. Though you can select which PHP, MySQL, MariaDB version you want on your server.
